About the position

As a specialist in family medicine in Ireland, you will work in primary care, either at a GP clinic or within out-of-hours services providing urgent care outside normal clinic opening hours.

Most GP clinics in Ireland are privately run but publicly funded through the GMS scheme (General Medical Services), in addition to private patients who pay for consultations themselves. This creates a varied working day with a high patient flow and good opportunities for flexibility.

You will treat patients of all ages and manage both acute and chronic medical conditions. The role involves independent consultations, diagnosis and treatment, long-term follow-up and collaboration with practice nurses, administrative staff and other healthcare professionals.

Typical responsibilities

• Consultations with patients of all age groups presenting with both acute and chronic conditions

• Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of medical conditions

• Follow-up of patients with chronic diseases requiring continuity of care

• Preventive medicine, health advice and management of lifestyle-related conditions

• Referral to specialist care when required

• Collaboration with practice nurses, administrative staff and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care

• Medical documentation and record keeping according to local guidelines

• For some assignments, participation in out-of-hours services providing care outside normal clinic opening hours

We are looking for candidates who

• Are specialists in family medicine / general practice

• Hold medical authorisation and specialist recognition from an EU/EEA country

• Have an interest in working in a new healthcare system and adapting to a different clinical environment

• Have excellent English language skills, both spoken and written

• Communicate clearly and confidently with patients, relatives and colleagues

• Thrive in an independent role with significant responsibility and a wide variety of patient cases

• Are flexible and motivated to work either in GP clinics, out-of-hours services, or a combination of both

Salary

Base salary depending on experience, typically around €120,000--€150,000 per year.
