Our AI-powered monitoring systems help wind farms reduce wildlife collisions and optimize turbine performance. Using advanced computer vision, machine learning, and edge computing, we provide real-time, actionable insights to customers operating in complex environments.
We're a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and product thinkers committed to impact and innovation. Based in Oslo, we foster a pragmatic, collaborative culture that values autonomy and technical excellence.
At Spoor, we are committed to building an inclusive, energetic and dynamic workplace where diverse perspectives thrive. Our team represents 12 nationalities, and we believe that diversity fuels high performance, creativity, innovation, and success. We strive to ensure that everyone feels valued, heard and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. If you’re passionate about our mission, we’d love to have you on board!
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior or Principal Software Engineer to lead core systems development across backend infrastructure, ML inference pipelines, and edge computing workloads. You’ll operate across architecture and implementation, working on systems that enable real-time tracking of birds and bats, on-device species classification, and scalable data onboarding.
This is a high-impact technical leadership role, with deep individual contribution and strong cross-functional collaboration. You’ll help shape system design, guide other engineers, and take ownership of critical software foundations.
What you’ll Do
Architect and implement scalable backend cloud services using Python, Postgres, Docker, and AWS
Design and build low-latency edge computing pipelines
Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy and optimize vision-language models in production
Lead development of systems for customer onboarding, processing pipeline orchestration, and PTZ camera control
Apply geometry and trigonometry to solve spatial computing problems in tracking and classification
Drive engineering standards and best practices, design reviews, and technical direction across the team
Mentor junior engineers through pairing, review, and collaborative design
What we’re looking for
We recognize that experience comes in many forms, and we encourage you to apply even if you don’t check every box. If you’re excited about our mission and eager to make an impact, we want to hear from you!
We think you’ll thrive in this role if you have:
Minimum 6 years of professional software engineering experience
Strong backend development skills, particularly in Python and cloud-native systems
Hands-on experience with computer vision applications in production
Proficiency in a compiled systems language (Rust or C++) for edge computing
Solid understanding of mathematics, especially geometry and trigonometry
Proven ability to lead technical architecture while remaining deeply hands-on
Effective collaborator with a bias toward simplicity, clarity, and reliability
🚀 Bonus points if you have:
Experience with camera control systems (e.g. PTZ devices)
Familiarity with real-time video processing and edge deployment
Background in IoT, robotics, or sensor networks
Exposure to pipeline orchestration and data onboarding systems
Why join Spoor?
🌍 Work on a mission that matters: making renewable energy safer for nature
🧠 Solve hard, real-world problems in AI, edge computing, and applied math 🤝 Join a focused, collaborative team where your work has visible impact
🏢 Be based in Oslo with a high degree of autonomy and technical ownership
What are you waiting for? Apply now!
