About the position

We are seeking a candidate for the position as research coordinator at NORA.ai. NORA is a national network hosted at the University of Oslo (UiO).

We are looking for a research coordinator with responsibilities related to NORA Research Schools. Task related to national and international research coordination activities and administrative tasks may be assigned to the position. You will be given the opportunity to build and strengthen Norwegian research and innovation within artificial intelligence - one of the most exciting and important fields, mentioned as a priority area within Emergent and industrial technologies in Norway’s Long-Term Plan for Research and Higher Education.

The position is externally financed from Research Council of Norway until 2029.

About NORA
NORA – the Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium – is a national collaboration between 8 universities, 5 university colleges, and 4 research institutes within artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. Our goal is to strengthen Norwegian research, education, and innovation in AI, machine learning, and robotics, as well as other relevant fields within artificial intelligence. The NORA Secretariat consists of eight dedicated staff members with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. The University of Oslo, through the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and dScience – Centre for Computational and Data Science – hosts NORA. We are located at Blindern and share offices with dScience.
 


Your main tasks will be

NORA has received funding from Research Council of Norway for establishing two Research Schools, which are:

  • NORA's Research School for cutting edge technologies within AI (NORA Tech)
  • Research School for humanities and societal questions within AI (NORA HS)

The position will primarily cover tasks related to NORA Research Schools.

The Research Coordinator will work closely with NORA´s existing Research Coordinator. The person who is hired will also get administrative tasks and responsibilities.

More about work tasks:
  • Plan and manage seasonal research schools for NORA Research Schools PhD students, including proposing and working closely with the program committee on scientific content, as well as overseeing all logistics and execution
  • Plan and manage private and open public events bringing together academia, startups, and industry
  • Engage PhD students and early-career researchers by curating and sharing relevant opportunities in the AI field, and by involving them in the Student Council to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration
  • Facilitate connections between Norwegian startups and relevant academic researchers
  • Lead and contribute to funding applications, including event and outreach funding from the Research Council of Norway, and support reporting obligations
  • Communicate research activities and initiatives to a broad audience, including writing short reports, news pieces, and articles for the NORA website and other relevant channels
  • Manage national and international academic collaborations and related administrative tasks, including correspondence, agreements, and partner relations
  • Monitor developments in the Norwegian and international AI landscape and provide input on strategic positioning and communication

    The tasks will be varied, and good collaboration skills are required. The person appointed will work closely with the CEO and the rest of the secretariat. The position can be assigned other tasks. Some travelling must be expected.


What skills are important in this role?

 Required skills 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in AI field. Practical competence may replace the educational requirement.
  • Experience with research administration and coordination
  • Experiences with National Research Schools.
  • In-depth knowledge of research funding from NFR and/or the EU's research programs.
  • Very good oral and written presentation skills in English are a prerequisite for the position. 
Preferred skills
  • Knowledge about the Norwegian AI landscape
  • Experience with international collaboration
  • Experience with academic event planning
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in AI field
  • Basic oral and written communication skills in Norwegian are an advantage.
