Role Overview

The Systems Engineer in NOV Digital Services (DBS) is responsible for designing, integrating, and supporting complex industrial systems across OT, IT, networking, and cybersecurity domains.

Based in Stavanger, this role supports both project delivery and operational systems in offshore and energy-sector environments.

You will work in a global setup, collaborating with teams and supporting systems across regions including the Middle East, Europe, and North America.

The role combines hands-on engineering, project coordination, and operational support, requiring strong technical expertise and the ability to work across disciplines.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities DBS Project Engineering
  • Lead delivery of assigned projects in line with engineering processes
  • Perform technical tasks including system design, networking, configuration, documentation, installation, and deployment
  • Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders throughout project execution
  • Support and execute testing activities (internal testing, FAT, and offshore support)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices
DBS Project Support
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support DBS systems in operation
  • Monitor, track, and resolve issues affecting live systems
  • Support ongoing operations and contribute to system reliability improvements
System Development, Testing, and Support
  • Contribute to development and release of new system versions
  • Work on assigned tasks and support ticket handling
  • Maintain test and development environments
  • Perform testing of system components and releases
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and tools
Collaboration
  • Work closely with DBS Operations, ISV, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Support cross-functional teamwork and knowledge sharing
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Automation, Cybernetics, or a related field (Relevant experience may compensate for formal education)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with OT (Operational Technology), networking, and/or cybersecurity in industrial environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues in operational systems
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize tasks in a project environment
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to lead tasks and initiatives through influence (not people management)
  • Structured, self-driven, and comfortable working both independently and in teams
  • Comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies, systems, and data flows
  • Familiarity with technologies such as virtualization, containerization, and industrial protocols (e.g., OPC-UA, WITSML, Modbus) is an advantage
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Nice to have
  • Experience in oil & gas or similar industries, particularly:
  • Downhole tools
  • Drilling environments
  • Control system vendors (e.g., Halliburton, Schlumberger)
  • Experience with industrial control systems (I&C)
  • Experience working with offshore systems or environments
  • Basic scripting or development experience (e.g., Python, GitHub)
  • Experience working in global or distributed teams
