Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (KPCS) is looking for talent within mechanical engineering.

We are looking to strengthen our R&D environment and are seeking an eager project engineer to contribute to and further develop the mechanical parts and components within our digital cutting systems.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will support the design, development, testing, and improvement of mechanical systems for next‑generation equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early‑career engineer to gain hands‑on experience in an R&D environment, working mostly onsite together with experienced engineers.

  • Assist in mechanical design and development of parts and assemblies

  • Participate in testing and quality validation of new and existing products

  • Work closely with electrical, mechatronics, and software engineers

  • Support documentation and engineering change processes

Kongsberg will be your primary location, with flexible home-office possibilities. Some travelling to the other KPCS sites, exhibitions, suppliers and customers should be expected.

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?
  • Idea to market
Work on exciting projects covering the full development cycle---from idea to finished product---with hands‑on access to real systems on site.

  • Complex and motivating products Our multi-disciplinary products are developed in-house and span mechanics, electronics and mechatronics, embedded control, application software, computer vision, user interfaces and more
Cross-disciplinary thinking is encouraged -- no single perspective tells the whole story

  • Flexibility
Flexible home-office arrangements and working hours give you the space to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

  • Collaborative culture and influence
We are a small, non-hierarchical and transparent team. You'll work closely across teams and disciplines and influence everything from design choices to project priorities and development processes

  • Motivation and learning We encourage you to develop yourself within what motivates you, regardless of background or experience. Hone your skills within product needs and requirements, quality and test, UX, or regulatory compliance---or dive deep into new technology.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

We know no candidate ticks every box -- if this role sounds interesting, we encourage you to apply.

Work Experience:

For this position we are mostly looking at your education and personal qualities. If you hold a bachelor's degree or are just about to, and you want to grow fast, this is your opportunity. We encourage both soon-to-be graduates (bachelor and master) and engineers with a few years of experience to apply.

Mandatory qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar

  • Experience in the use of 3D CAD tools for mechanical engineering

  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required

Preferred qualifications

The following is beneficial but not required:

  • A certificate of trade within a mechanical or another relevant technical occupation

  • Practical protype building or hands-on mechanical experience

  • Testing and validation

  • Tools and techniques such as FMEA, FEA or Design of Experiments

  • CNC theory, mechatronics or manufacturing

  • Norwegian language, spoken and written

Personal qualities:

We value diversity and know that everyone is different. These are some personal skills that match our current teams, but we encourage everyone to apply.

  • You are pragmatic, analytic or both, thriving with a balance between hands-on and theoretical work.

  • You can solve tasks independently and take responsibility when you see a need.

  • You are a team player thriving in small teams with a flat hierarchical structure.

  • You are willing to learn and to listen to ideas and opinions from others.

  • You are not afraid to speak your mind.

ABOUT THE HIRING PROCESS

Submit your CV together with a short description of why you are interested in this position and why you consider yourself a good candidate. Applications will be reviewed continuously, and selected candidates will be invited to an initial interview with relevant people from R&D.

Further shortlisted candidates will be invited to a second stage which includes a practical case or task together with the R&D team and an HR interview including standard recruitment tests.
