Laerdal Medical is an international market leader in training and therapy products for emergency medicine and critical care. Our products and services are used by hospitals, ambulance services, first aid organizations, educational institutions and others around the world. We are a dynamic and energetic organization consisting of people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds. By 2030, we have a goal of helping save 1.000.000 more lives. Every year.

As a Cybernetics & Robotics Engineer, you will be part of a team developing and improving our advanced patient-simulator products. The simulators are closely related to humanoid robots and are equipped with sensors and actuators that mimic human behavior and physiological responses such as breathing, blinking, moving, talking and much more. **** You will work in a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with fellow Cybernetics & Robotics Engineers as well as mechanical-, firmware- and electronics engineers, designers, and product leadership at our facilities in Stavanger. You will have access to well-equipped electronics labs, mechanical workshops, 3D printers, a state-of-the-art test laboratory, and other tools that support prototyping and product development.
Some of what you will be doing

  • Develop advanced control systems

  • Design, implement and maintain parts, systems and components in Laerdal’s manikins

  • Use and help improve established development processes, tools, and best practices

  • Participate in iterative, multidisciplinary product development activities, such as:

  • Prototyping and early concepts

  • Requirements and specifications

  • Detailed design and architecture

  • Verification and testing

  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis

Who we envision would fit the role You are an engineer with experience or interest in systems modelling and curiosity about new technologies and ideas. You collaborate across disciplines and communicate clearly and thoughtfully with your team and colleagues. Preferred qualifications and experience (not all required):

  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Cybernetics, Robotics, Computer Science, Mechatronics or similar background related to control systems.

  • Experience with mathematical modelling, simulation, and physics-based analysis for designing and optimizing complex robotic- and cybernetic systems

  • Familiarity with tools and programming languages such as Python, Octave, Julia and MATLAB/Simulink for modelling, simulation, and data analysis

  • Commitment to clear, thorough documentation --- design notes, reports, and code comments that support knowledge sharing

Other qualifications that would benefit the role:
  • Exposure to hydraulics, pneumatics and electromechanics

  • Interested in rapid prototyping and iterative product design

  • Experience or interest in electronics and microcontrollers

  • A creative and playful mindset

  • Ability to bring a practical “hands-on” approach to engineering challenges

  • Familiarity with tools for source control, issue tracking, and similar workflows

  • Experience with multidisciplinary hardware product development

We value diverse backgrounds and perspectives. If this role interests you, but you’re unsure whether your experience matches every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

Some of what we can offer you
  • At Laerdal, you will get the opportunity to learn, develop, and innovate and you will be a part of an international working environment where the possibility to make an impact is endless.

  • An interesting and important job contributing to our mission

  • Great opportunities for growth and personal development

  • A multicultural office environment and collaboration with colleagues located around the world

  • A (brand new) signature office building in the heart of Stavanger

  • A creative, diverse, and inclusive organization

  • A job in a company driving forward-thinking technology

  • Competitive salary, pension scheme, and insurance

  • An extensive welfare program with company benefits such as discounted public transport, indoor bicycle garage, and workshop, wardrobe with towel service, social and sports groups, company cabins, gym and more
