Make a difference with Laerdal where immersive technology transforms healthcare quality and education across the globe. With over 2,200 colleagues, join a team where collaboration and engagement are prioritized in helping save one million more lives, every year, by 2030.

The job

Laerdal Medical is a global, mission-driven healthcare company that designs learning and simulation solutions to help professionals deliver safer, higher‑quality care and ultimately save lives. Healthcare simulation can do more than train individual though -- it can diagnose and improve the systems, workflows, and culture that shape patient outcomes. But in practice, simulation-based quality improvement is slow to start, hard to coordinate, and difficult to translate into lasting change. Sim to Improve is Laerdal’s answer to that challenge -- an AI-powered platform that helps healthcare organizations plan and implement simulation-based QI more effectively. We’re looking for a Senior UX/UI designer to help continue to define what this product is, and how it looks and feels like.
You'll be joining the Sim to Improve product group at a genuinely exciting moment. The team is growing, the platform is evolving, and design has a real seat at the table. You’ll work alongside developers, AI engineers, data scientists, learning specialists, and subject-matter experts all oriented around a common goal to improve healthcare quality outcomes.
In this senior individual contributor role, you will shape the design direction across new and existing features, translating user needs, pilot learnings, and product goals into intuitive and effective digital experiences. The work spans complex workflows, trust-sensitive clinical contexts, and AI-supported functionality where transparency and appropriate human oversight are essential parts of the user experience. This is a role for someone who is energized by ambiguity, comfortable working in an evolved problem space, and believes that good design helps define the solution and not just deliver it.
The potential impact is significant. Our users and partners are eager to see the platform grow, and there is meaningful work ahead.

Key activities

As a Laerdal designer, you will work in all stages of the design process: early-phase user research, ideation and concept development, detailed design and specification, and final product testing and validation. Everything we do happens in close loops with our users and stakeholders, including simulation practitioners, quality improvement teams, and clinical leaders. It is expected that you will work AI fluently and champion the use of AI across your entire design process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shadow simulation-based QI sessions and clinical workflows first-hand, as you’ll need to be immersed in the environment to design it well.

  • Plan and conduct user research to deeply understand needs within the relevant user segments.

  • Synthesize, visualize and communicate findings and insights to the development/engineering team in ways that stakeholders actually act on.

  • Design, prototype and develop complete digital user flows and experiences.

  • Design and refine experiences that incorporate AI-supported flows, with a strong focus on transparency, usability, and trust.

  • Translate design decisions into production-ready deliverables.

  • Partner closely with engineers throughout handoff and implementation, ensuring designs are feasible, well-specified, and land in the product as intended.

  • Articulate design rationale clearly to non-design stakeholders.

  • Plan, perform and document design validation activities.

Qualifications
  • Preferably a Master’s degree within UX/UI or Interaction Design (or equivalent practical experience).

  • 5+ years of hands-on product design experience (e.g., UX/UI, interaction design and/or service design), with a

  • Experience in digital product design in complex systems, workflows, or platforms where requirements evolve over time (e.g. enterprise, healthcare, B2B system level products).

  • Proven ability to translate user needs into thoughtful product concepts, using strong prototyping and visualization skills to deliver high-quality, user-centered experiences.

  • Comfort working in early solution phases, using design to explore, clarify, and progressively shape the solution.

  • AI-fluent ways of working in your process: practical, everyday use of AI to speed up and improve quality in discovery, synthesis, ideation, writing, prototyping, and iteration.

  • Experience designing and launching AI-powered experiences (or strong curiosity and evidence of learning), including setting expectations and handling uncertainty.

  • Understanding responsible AI practices (privacy, security, IP, bias) and ability to translate constraints into usable, trustworthy experiences.

  • Strong communication skills, fluent English (written and spoken).

What we offer
  • Interesting and meaningful work contributing to our mission

  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth

  • A great, diverse, inclusive, and international work environment

  • Innovative and forward-thinking technology

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package

  • Flexible work arrangements, an extensive wellbeing program with social, cultural and sports activities and benefits such as discounted public transport, wardrobe with towel service, company cabins, and more.
