About the job
We are looking to employ a qualified and experienced secondary school Individuals and Societies teacher to join our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) team, in August 2026.
This is a temporary full-time position from August 2026 until July 2027.
The role of the Individuals and Societies teacher will be to implement the MYP Individuals and Societies curriculum, teach the objectives of the subject as defined by the IB.
There may also be teaching duties at our sister school in Stavanger, BISS Gausel.
We reserve the right to interview and appoint candidates before the deadline.
Qualifications and experience
- A teaching qualification in humanities or a related field of study. This qualification should be eligible for recognition by the Norwegian Higher Education Directorate (HKDir).
- An IB CAT1 certificate in MYP Individuals and Societies, is desirable
- English proficiency at C1, or higher.
- Experience teaching secondary students (age 11-17)
- Knowledge of, and experience with, the educational philosophies and practices of the IB, specifically relating to assessment in the MYP is desirable
Skills and personal qualities
- A thorough and up-to-date understanding of the best approaches to teaching for the age group 11-17
- The ability to plan, deliver and reflect on curriculum and lessons in a way which will stimulate, motivate and engage students' learning and agency
- The ability to ensure inclusion through universal design of lessons and differentiated instruction
- Employ strategies to empower learning in a diverse group of students
- The capability to instil confidence in students, and facilitate their understanding and application of subject concepts
- Outstanding collaboration skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Organised and reliable
- Engage actively and enthusiastically to contribute to a positive school environment
