Do you want to contribute to Ukraine’s defense efforts? 

The Norwegian Armed Forces have launched Operation Ellisiv to coordinate support to Ukraine across four key areas: training and equipment, donations, operational assistance, and experience sharing. This support is provided in close cooperation with our allies.

We are currently seeking several interpreters/language operators to join our team. These roles involve working under demanding conditions, and extended international travel is required. We welcome applicants from all over Norway, and the work location will be both national and international, not necessarily limited to the address listed in the job posting.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for leadership and command staff
  
• Participate in instruction and guidance during courses, training sessions, and exercises
  
• Interpret during courses and exercises in both English and Ukrainian (simultaneous and consecutive)
  
• Assist communication between various parties, ensuring accurate message delivery
  
• Translate written materials
  
• Support the team with language-related tasks as needed
  
• Engage in extensive international travel
  
• Perform other duties as required
• Some travel activity must be expected

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must:

• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Ukrainian
  
• Hold valid residence and work permits in Norway
  
• Have a satisfactory conduct record (cf. Norwegian Defence Act § 59, second paragraph, letter a)
  
• Be medically fit for international operations*
  • This assessment is conducted by a military physician and requires approved medical fitness, as well as consent to comply with the Armed Forces’ vaccination program as applicable at any given time.
• Successfully complete the Armed Forces’ interpreter selection process prior to employment
  
• Be able to obtain RESTRICTED clearance prior to taking up the position

Please attach relevant certificates, valid residence, work permits and diplomas with your application. If you have completed higher education outside Norway, it must be approved and documented by the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (formerly NOKUT).

 

It would be an advantage for you if you have:

• Relevant education in languages, linguistics, communication, translation and interpreting, pedagogy or similar fields
  
• Relevant professional experience
• Driver’s license (Class B)
  
• Previous experience with Armed Forces

*Due to operational requirements and the need to ensure personnel safety, the Armed Forces require certificate of medical fitness for national and international missions.
