The Aquaculture & Marine Biodiversity Research Group at NORCE Climate and Environment is seeking a highly motivated senior analytical chemist to join our Mass Spectrometry Laboratory in Randaberg, Norway. Our lab is a leading center for environmental analytical chemistry, delivering cutting-edge insights into complex environmental and biological samples. We combine state-of-the-art chromatography and mass spectrometry with advanced computational and data-driven tools to support interdisciplinary research addressing emerging environmental challenges.
This role is ideal for a scientist who can lead high-impact analytical projects, mentor staff, and drive research proposals and grant applications, strengthening the group’s technical expertise and strategic research profile.
Key Responsibilities
Lead advanced analytical projects using GC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, and Pyrolysis-GC/MS on complex environmental and biological samples.
Design and implement targeted, suspect, and non-targeted workflows, including metabolomics.
Characterize and quantify pollutants of emerging concern (microplastics, additives, pharmaceuticals) and their transformation products.
Drive research proposals and grant applications, providing analytical design, feasibility assessments, and innovative solutions.
Collaborate with national and international partners, translating analytical results into impactful interdisciplinary research.
Mentor and support junior staff, fostering laboratory excellence, reproducibility, and high-quality data.
Required Qualifications
PhD or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field, with strong expertise in analytical chemistry.
Proven hands-on experience with GC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, Pyrolysis-GC/MS, and advanced analytical workflows.
Demonstrated experience in environmental or biological chemical analysis, including emerging pollutants.
Proven track record in project-based research and delivering high-quality outputs.
Experience in grant writing and contributing to successful research proposals.
Strong skills in data processing, interpretation, and reporting.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Fluency in English; Norwegian is an advantage.
Desired Competencies
Lead research proposals and grant applications, contributing analytical design, feasibility, and innovative solutions.
Advanced expertise in method development, validation, QA (ISO/GLP), and automated workflows.
Proficiency in large datasets, chemometrics, and metabolomics platforms.
Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate results to diverse audiences.
Ability to work effectively in international collaborative teams.
