About the position
A fixed-term 100 % position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Social Science as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow. The position is affiliated to the Department of Information Systems, for a period of three years in the area of information and communication technology for development (ICT4D) as part of the Center for Integrated Emergency Management (CIEM) cluster. The Department of Information Systems offers bachelor´s, master´s and PhD degrees in Information Systems, a master ́s degree in Cybersecurity and an executive master´s degree in Digitalisation. It also contributes to other University of Agder programmes and qualifications. With over 50 research-active staff, the department is one of Norway’s largest Information Systems research groups.
Responsibilities
Within these three years the candidate is expected to conduct two years of research and one year of teaching within the department.
The position's objective is to strengthen research and give scholars holding a doctoral degree the opportunity to gain research experience toward permanent academic positions in the future. The position is partly linked to the PRIFORSK funding at CIEM. Thus, the applicant is expected to contribute to the PRIFORSK and ICT4D research goals in addition to engaging in teaching activities. The postdoctoral fellow will also be central for exploring possible direct links between ICT4D and emergency management.
The candidate will teach at either the bachelor or master level within the department.
Required qualifications
- Hold a PhD qualification in information systems, computer science or similar disciplines, preferably with expertise in ICT4D.
- Applicants must have submitted their doctoral dissertation for approval before the application deadline. The dissertation must be approved before a decision on employment can be made.
- Possess relevant knowledge related to emergency management.
- Have an excellent level of spoken and written English.
- Teaching experience and competence of relevance for teaching within the Department of Information Systems.
- Have competence with relevance for teaching within the Department of Information Systems.
Criteria for positionsas Post-doctoral Research Fellow(in Norwegian).
Desired qualifications
- Knowledgeable with Norwegian language.
- Experiences with preparing external funding applications.
- Experience with contributing to prepare external funding applications.
- Experience with conducting field research in Norway or overseas.
- Presented the PhD theses during the last five years.

- Proactive, adaptive, and open-minded.
- Result-oriented.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Strong motivation to contribute to good working and social environment.
- Interested in cross-disciplinary research.
- Willingness to work with UiA’s ICT4D Research Group and CIEM.
- Demonstrate a passion for critically analysing the implications of digital technology on human development.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352, NOK 680 000 – 710 000 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
