About the position

Are you motivated to take a step towards a doctorate and open up exciting career opportunities? As a PhD Candidate with us, you will work to achieve your doctorate, and at the same time gain valuable experience that qualifies you for a further career in higher education and research, in and outside academia.

Cost- and risk optimal installation and operation of offshore wind farms depend on accurate forecasts and predictions of environmental conditions and response of vessel and auxiliary systems. The focus for the PhD work will be response estimation based on remote distributed sensing of the wave field in an offshore wind park, in combination with metocean forecasting data. Improved sea-state and wave prediction can lead to real-time solutions for prediction of motion responses and wave loads during installation tasks such as turbine/blade installation as well as mooring and cable installation. The research task will further investigate exploitation of such methods for active motion reduction based on feedforward wave motion/load compensation in DP and crane/winch associated control systems for critical operations by floating vessels, as well as use in online DSS solutions for tactical planning.

Your supervisor will be Associate Professor Marit Kvittem and your immediate leader will  be the Head of the Department.
