Lead Major Industrial Projects in HalZero

Hydro is a global aluminium company striving to be a leader in working towards a sustainable future. In December 2021, we announced our plans to develop and industrialize HalZero, a new CO₂ emission-free process for producing primary aluminium.

The development of HalZero is one of three pillars in Hydro's initiative to deliver aluminium with net-zero CO₂ emissions. HalZero is a new and innovative way to produce aluminium, where no CO₂ is emitted during the production process. In December 2025, we completed construction of the HalZero Test Facility in Porsgrunn. Industrializing the HalZero process requires extensive development, including laboratory work, design and operation of our Test Facility and pilots, and engineering and construction of demo and full commercial plants.

The work towards CO₂ emission-free aluminium is led by the Technology, Operational Support and Projects (TOP) unit in Hydro Aluminium Metal. TOP consists of 300 skilled employees in Norway and Germany, whose main task is to support commercial and operational units in improving profitability and sustainability both in the short and long term. HalZero is strengthening its team in several areas to support the further development of the technology.

We are looking for a committed leader to take on the role of Head of Project Office (PO) in HalZero, and play a pivotal role in our industrial venture.

What you will be doing

In this role, you will represent HalZero as the project owner across facility projects Industrial Concept Pilot (ICP), Industrial Demo Plant (IDP), Commercial Plant (COP), ensuring clear direction, strong governance, and successful delivery from early concept through execution and handover. You will bridge technology development with project execution, safeguard business and technical objectives, and act as the key interface towards Hydro's project organization - driving performance on cost, time, quality, and strategic impact while building a collaborative, high-performing project environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the HalZero Project Office

• Act as HalZero's owner representative, setting direction, scope, and success criteria for major projects

• Ensure governance and decision frameworks aligned with strategic and commercial goals

• Lead early-phase development activities including site selection, permitting, and stakeholder engagement

• Serve as the main interface to Hydro's project execution teams and EPC contractor, ensuring seamless collaboration and handovers

• Oversee project performance (cost, schedule, quality, risk) from an owner's perspective

• Build strong internal collaboration, develop capabilities, and drive continuous improvement across projects

What will make you successful?

• Master's degree in engineering, technology, or a related field

• Experience leading complex process industry projects with a structured, holistic approach from early concept to delivery

• Strong ability to collaborate across disciplines, building trust and alignment between technical, business, and project teams

• Confident decision-maker with a balanced, thoughtful approach to risk, quality, and commercial outcomes

• Skilled in navigating complexity and change, bringing clarity and direction in evolving environments

• Engaging communicator and inclusive leader who fosters collaboration, stakeholder trust, and shared success
