On behalf of our client Bergen Engines AS we are seeking a Relocation Project Manager - Locistics

Position Type: Full-Time / Contract (Relocation Project)

Location: Bergen Factory / External Storage Site 

Business Context

Bergen Engines is executing a significant industrial scale-up, increasing manufacturing output substantially over the coming years while expanding the workforce and operating largely within the constraints of the existing factory footprint. This places strong emphasis on layout optimization, flow improvement, bottleneck removal, and disciplined capital deployment.

The business is also experiencing a shift in customer base and order profiles, requiring the manufacturing organization to adapt to different delivery patterns, product configurations, and expectations. Success will require innovative thinking and the willingness to challenge and change established ways of working, while maintaining control of safety, quality, and cost.

Background and Scope 

As a key part of this scale-up options have been assessed to solve the current Logistics challenge faced as the factory increase engine manufacture capacity from 70 to 200 machines per annum by 2028.

A 12M NOK project to relocate the majority of stored inventory from the factory into 2x remote warehouses is progressing through companies the approval process. The project comprises of 5 firm elements and one further tbc scope;

1) Fit-out and commission a local warehouse to store 3rd party supplied heavy items and establish a Dispatch Centre for Bill of Parts (BOP) to accompany completed machines,

2) Lease and fit out a new primary warehouse with new racking and equipment to store 80% of the current materials and develop the systems and processes to establish an efficient Kitting Out function,

3) Instal and commission a new Lean Lift storage system in the Factory for low cost hi usage consumables,

4) Re-model the factory Good sReceipt area, remove excess racking, establish a Kitting Distribution point, set-up a small footprint critical spares storage area and take-down excess tent capacity.

5) Commission and put into operation a new circular route around the factory and foundry to improve the flow of vehicles,

6) Tbc – extend the storage area for completed machines.

In parallel to the above, to be completed by others; possible repair of quayside crane.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Relocation Project Manager to oversee the complex logistical task of moving industrial equipment, machinery, and storage inventory from our internal factory site to two new, external logistics/warehouse location. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire move lifecycle, including auditing assets, managing movers/riggers, managing budgets, and ensuring zero-incident, minimal-downtime execution. 

In parallel to this re-location project the ongoing SAP transformation exercise will be ongoing and a key responsibility for the Relocation Project Manager is to ensure the SAP Team and Logistics team are fully aligned throughout the move.

The position will report to the Logistics Manager who is accountable for the Logistics Relocation, resourcing and commissioning of the new logistics operation and the successful completion of the SAP transformation. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning & Logistics Management

• Develop a comprehensive relocation roadmap, including move sequences, packing strategies, and inventory tracking (barcoding/manifesting).

• Coordinate logistical efforts, including transportation of machinery, storage racks, and inventory to the new location.

• Assess new site readiness, ensuring proper layout, electrical, and environmental controls for equipment storage. +4

2. Vendor Management & Procurement

• Source and negotiate with the current logistics organisation, professional movers, heavy rigging contractors, and transport companies.

• Vet all vendors for necessary licenses, safety certifications, and insurance compliance.

• Negotiate and enforce contractual penalties (penalty clauses) for schedule delays. 

3. Safety & Risk Mitigation

• Establish strict health & safety protocols for the decommissioning of factory equipment and transit.

• Identify potential risks (asset damage, environmental, or logistical failures) and develop contingency plans.

• Conduct a full asset audit and create a detailed inventory manifest for logistics providers. 

4. Budget & Timeline Control

• Create and manage the total relocation budget, monitoring expenses to avoid cost overruns.

• Develop a detailed master schedule with critical milestones (e.g., Phase 1 Packing Complete, Move Day). 

5. Stakeholder Communication

• Serve as the single point of contact between internal management, factory operations, and external contractors.

• Provide regular, transparent progress reporting on move deadlines and budgets. 

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 5+ years in project management, specifically focused on industrial plant relocation, warehousing, or machinery logistics.

• Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar certification preferred.

• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of rigging, lifting heavy machinery, and industrial storage systems.

• Logistics Skills: Experience with inventory auditing, barcoding systems, and supply chain logistics.

• Communication: Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills to manage diverse vendor teams.

• Tools: Proficiency in MS Project, Smartsheet, or logistics-based software. 

Relocation Project Phases

• Pre-Move: Asset Auditing, Vendor Selection, Site Prep, Schedule Development.

• Move: Rigging, Loading, Transit, Receiving, Installation/Storage.

• Post-Move: Facility Sign-off, Inventory Audit, Final Reporting
