About the Technology Center

Our international R&D center is a recognized Centre of Excellence within ABB. With 55 talented engineers, two advanced laboratories, and a global mandate, we drive innovation that matters.

We are now looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and help to design and develop the next generation of medium voltage gas insulated switchgear. We are seeking a mechanical engineer with a hands-on approach and strong design skills.

As part of our R&D team, you will work on innovative switchgear designs that integrate thermal, mechanical, and electrical domains. You will be involved in everything from 3D modeling and prototyping to testing and preparing documentation for industrialization.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing next-generation medium voltage gas insulated switchgear.

• Analyzing multi-domain aspects of switchgear design (thermal, mechanical, electrical) during 3D modeling.

• Participating in prototyping activities with external vendors and our factory.

• Organizing and overseeing prototype testing.

• Preparing documentation for industrialization, including design reviews, BOMs, and updates via PDM systems.

Preferred qualifications:

• BSc or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• Experience with 3D design systems such as SolidWorks.

The base for this position is Skien.
