About the position
In the Department of IT at UiT the Arctic University of Norway, there are two permanent 100% positions available as IT System Operations Engineer in a newly established Section for research services and infrastructure. The new section will be operational from January 1st 2026.
The Section for Digital Research Services and Infrastructure is one of 4 sections in the Department of IT. The section will be responsible for the operation, user support and development of services for high-performance computing – including access to national resources and local support for researchers. Furthermore, it will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of operating systems and applications for servers and systems, both locally and in the cloud, as well as the operation and maintenance of information and data both locally and in the cloud.
The section is also responsible for client and core networks, network-related services, monitoring and logging, as well as operation and maintenance of data centers. The section consists of about 40 employees, and has three service teams: High-Performance Computing and AI, Research Platform, and Infrastructure. These positions will be associated with the Infrastructure service team.
The place of work will be at one of UiTs campuses in Alta, Harstad, Narvik or Tromsø. Please specify in your application which campus you wish to work at.
Tasks
The positions are part of UiT's ongoing work to improve and secure the operating environment. The Department of IT supports several services based on on-premises and cloud-based platforms. The tasks of the positions will be:
- Manage Active Directory and related services, including OnPrem certificate services
- Operating on-premises storage solutions based on Dell UNITY and Dell PowerVault
- Operate and develop services based on Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Operation of local load balancing
- Assist in the modernization of IT services and data management for research
- Automatic prosessers and services
- Assist operational support partners
- Assist with physical work in the data center
- If necessary, participate in projects in the higher education sector
The positions will be part of a team for operational server operations that is responsible for developing a comprehensive infrastructure service in line with the institution's needs.
Qualifications
Required qualifications- Applicants should have an education at college/university level in a relevant field. Experience in relevant subject areas can compensate for parts of level of education
- Relevant professional experience is an advantage, but enthusiasm for technology and professional curiosity can compensate for a lack of experience. We encourage graduates to apply
- Applicants must have a good command of Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) and English, both orally and in writing. The interview will be held in Norwegian
- Experience in the use of cloud technologies (PaaS, IaaS) and virtualization
- Scripting/programming in Python and/or PowerShell
- Experience from project and development work, as well as knowledge of the higher education sector
- Network expertise
- Good communication skills

The salaries for the positions are paid in accordance with the pay scale for state employees code 1085 department engineer or code 1087 senior engineer, depending on qualifications.
