About the position
A tenure-track position is available at Department of Pharmacy, University of Oslo.
This position is an integral part of the department's strategic initiative in industrial pharmacy and radiopharmacy. The Department of Pharmacy offers access to state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities when moving into the new Life science building in 2026, a key hub for life science research in the Oslo region. The successful candidate will benefit from the new and comprehensive equipment park, ties to the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre (NNRC) funded by the Norwegian Research Council and Nordic POP/NordicPharmaTrain funded by NordForsk with opportunities for international research stays, and engagement with a high-caliber international research community.
This role supports our broader industrial strategy within Norway's leading academic institution, providing an excellent environment for advancing pharmaceutics research. The position is expected to contribute to establishing a closer collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry and increase competence within radiopharmacy. Mentoring and support will be provided, but any experience within this will be beneficial.
The appointment is a fixed-term postdoctoral position for six years. During this fixed-term period, the candidate is given the opportunity to qualify for a tenured position. The Department of Pharmacy may instruct departmental duties limited up to 25% of total working hours.
Pursuant to the Act relating to universities and university colleges, post holders at institutions can only be employed for one fixed-term period in a tenure-track position. Anyone employed for a fixed-term period of more than one year in an ordinary postdoctoral position pursuant to the Regulations to the Act on Universities and Colleges or who has held such a postdoctoral appointment at a foreign institution, cannot be employed in a fixed-term postdoctoral tenure-track position.
Tenure-track positions at the University of Oslo are reserved for candidates who are expected to develop the competence and independence required to build and head a research group at a high international level. A formal midway assessment will be held, which will be completed before the candidate has been employed for four years. Before the end of the fixed-term period, the institution shall assess whether the requirements laid down in the employment contract have been met.

Job description
The Department of Pharmacy seeks a highly motivated, dynamic, collaboration orientated and innovative researcher with educational skills.
The cluster of pharmaceutical biotech industry and academia in the Oslo area is growing and the concept of Oslo Science City with the new Life Science building in progress is an important part of this development. The Department will move into the new Life Science building in 2026/2027, where interdisciplinary collaborations and scientific convergence will be important. This will provide new opportunities for groundbreaking research and innovation.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to strengthening the research within industrial pharmaceutics as well as to promote interdisciplinary and international cooperation.
The candidate will be expected to collaborate with the existing research groups in both pharmaceutics and medicinal chemistry at the department as well as other relevant research environments, including industry. Relevant research and innovation are typically within industrial pharmacy, and in particular radiopharmacy, theranostics, sterile production, physical chemistry and formulation of drug products,
The successful candidate will teach at all levels, including the master- and PhD levels. The position will entail teaching in various areas of pharmaceutics, including radiopharmacy to students at all levels, including lectures, lab/group teaching and supervision.
To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.
Qualifications
The candidate for this position will be selected based on excellence and fit with the section’s research profile. Candidates must demonstrate good results in relation to the production and dissemination of scientific publications. Recent research and scientific output will be emphasized. Experiences with teaching and scientific supervision of master students will also be important for the evaluation of candidates.
Assessment of applicants will be based on the following criteria, which all need to be appropriately documented:
Qualification requirements- For appointment to a tenure-track position it is required that the public defense of the candidate’s doctoral thesis was held within the preceding five years. Additional time may be allowed for leave relating to childbirth or adoption.
- Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment.
- Candidates that have submitted their thesis within the application deadline, but not yet defended it, have three months to complete their PhD.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language are required. The teaching language is Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language). The person appointed to the position will be expected to be able to teach in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language).
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Pharmacy (5 years)
- Experience with research and development in industrial pharmacy.
- An applicant with experience in radiophamacy, theranostics, sterile production, physical chemistry or formulation of drug products will be a particularly strong candidate.
- Teaching experience, specifically in pharmaceutics
- Documented acquisition of scholarships (e.g. travel grants) and/or submission of research grant applications.
The applicants will be judged according to their scientific and pedagogical qualifications, personal skills, and with administrative and other qualifying activities also taken into account.
Interviews and trial lectures will be used as part of the appointment process.
Applicants, who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of formal basic teaching competence, must acquire such competence in the course of the tenure track period.
