About the Role As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play a central role in our growing engineering team. You will work closely with colleagues in software, mechanics, and optics to develop the next generation of reliable and energy-efficient power supply solutions. You’ll be involved throughout the entire development process—from concept to finished product—while also contributing to continuous improvements, quality assurance, and mentoring junior team members. The position involves broad responsibilities and offers excellent opportunities for technical leadership. Your main responsibilities and tasks:

• Lead the development of AC-DC power supplies, LED drivers, and control circuits

• Design switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) using topologies such as flyback, buck, boost, or PFC

• Develop and review schematics, select components, and manage PCB layout

• Ensure compliance with safety, EMC, thermal, and regulatory standards (IEC, UL, CE, RoHS, etc.)

• Perform simulations (e.g., SPICE), circuit analysis, and lab-based validation

• Collaborate with suppliers for component sourcing and technical evaluation

• Mentor junior engineers and technicians

• Document development work and contribute to continuous improvement of products and processes

This position is based at Barel’s headquarters in Kirkenes, Norway but if preferred, it is also possible to work from our office in Gothenburg, Sweden. You will report to CTO, Mika Varjosaari.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone with a master’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering, or equivalent experience. You have several years of experience in electronic system design, preferably with a focus on power conversion, AC-DC design, and SMPS. You have strong knowledge of both analog and digital circuit design, along with hands-on experience with magnetic components such as transformers and inductors. Experience with embedded systems and design for manufacturability (DFM) is a plus. You communicate fluently in English, and knowledge of Norwegian or Swedish is considered an advantage.

You thrive in taking full technical ownership from concept to final product and are used to working independently and in a structured way. You are analytical, curious, and quality-conscious. You value clear communication and enjoy collaborating and sharing your expertise with others in the team.
