Professor in Algae and cell-based bioprocesses (20 %)

About the position

The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture at Nord University (Bodø, Norway) has an open position (20%) as Professor in Algae and Cell-based Bioprocesses for a period of five years affiliated to the Algal and Microbial Biotechnology division. This role offers a unique opportunity to join forces with members of the division and lead or co-develop excellent research activities. 

The position is available from January 1, 2026, and primarily connected to the activities of the division at Bodø. 

We expect to receive applications from candidates with a long-standing experience in the specific field announced. An exemplary scientific track record in research and innovation, as well as in academic leadership are necessary to fulfil the requirements for the position.

Duties and responsibilities

• Advise on research initiatives at the group and faculty level
• Develop projects in collaboration with members of the group and lead them, where appropriate
• Engage in green technology initiatives that contribute to circular economy and sustainable development in the region
• Participate in supervising doctoral students and mentoring young researchers
• Contribute to the group's scientific dissemination and communication activities
• Extend the reach of the research group through networking at various levels
• Participate in the development of new educational programs at the faculty, including lifelong learning.

Qualification requirements

• Doctoral degree in a field that is directly relevant to the announced position.
• Educational proficiency: Pedagogical or didactic competence to promote learning, including knowledge and skills in the development and implementation of teaching and supervision at the university level.   Nord University has supplementary provisions on educational competence. • Quality development in own teaching and supervision over time and a high degree of reflection on own practice
• Experience in initiating, leading and/or participating in the development of educational programmes, its quality and management
• Broad experience with supervision, preferably at master's/PhD level
• Proven team leadership skills, with experience in mentoring researchers, and fostering scientific collaboration
• Extensive experience in securing external funding for research and managing projects
• Science leadership roles at the top level - faculty or institutional level
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
• An excellent scientific publication record

• Entrepreneurial approach to innovation and industry engagement on circular and ‘green’ technologies
• Strong track record of industry collaboration in sustainable biotechnology entrepreneurship at European and International level.

Qualified applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:

• Research and development with relevance to the position
• Emphasis will be placed on publications within the last five years
• Experience with international research networks and projects with external funding
• Experience from teaching and academic supervision at bachelor-, master- and doctoral- levels from the university and college sector
• Educational qualifications from a college, university or equivalent
• Pedagogical skills
• Relevant professional practice
• Good skills in communication and collaboration with students, colleagues
• Individual qualities that can contribute positively to the workplace environment
• Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian (or possibly another Scandinavian language)
