At the Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging (ISB), we have a vacancy for a permanent full time (100 %) position as a Professor/Associate Professor in Medicine (MR Technology and Molecular Imaging).
The Department includes the following subject areas: Radiology, Biomedical Technology and Medical Imaging, Exercise Physiology and Sport Sciences, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Cardiology and Pulmonary Medicine and Anesthesiology. The Department is also responsible for hosting the MR Core Facility (https://www.ntnu.edu/mh/mr-corefacility), the MR Centre (https://www.ntnu.edu/isb/mr), Centre of Innovative Ultrasound Solutions (CIUS), Cancer Imaging and Multiomics Research group (CIMORe), and Cardiac Exercise Group (CERG). ISB collaborates with the Research and Development units at St. Olav’s Hospital, including two Norwegian National Advisory Boards.
The department is responsible for the Bachelor's program in Radiography, as well as Master’s programs in Exercise Physiology and Medical Imaging Technologies, and is responsible for teaching in specific areas of the medical program. The department also offers two postgraduate educations in medical imaging, along with a range of courses at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels.

Together with the department’s other academic staff, the appointee will be responsible for teaching, student supervision, research and innovation, and the development of both infrastructure and academic activities within the relevant disciplines, in accordance with their competencies. The position also includes administrative duties and is administratively affiliated with the MR research unit at the department.
Your immediate leader will be the Head of Department.
Duties of the position
- The appointee will contribute to ISB's activities in research, teaching, dissemination and innovation.
- The relevant research areas include MR technology and molecular imaging in cancer. The appointee is expected to develop collaborative projects at the international, national, and institutional levels – including NTNU and St Olav's hospital, the healthcare sector, and industry. In addition, the appointee is expected to contribute actively and independently to securing external research funding from both national and international sources.
- The appointee will hold scientific responsibility of the MR Core Facility (https://www.ntnu.edu/mh/mr-corefacility) and contribute to the scientific and strategic development of infrastructure to support research of high international quality.
- The position includes responsibility for teaching and supervision across the department’s study programs, from bachelor to PhD level. Relevant subject areas include basic MR and X-ray physics, general pathology, physiology, radiobiology, and oncology. The appointee may also have responsibility for a “village” within the Experts in Teamwork (EiT) program.
Required qualifications
Professor:
You must have the qualifications required for the position of Professor in the field of MR technology and molecular imaging, as outlined in § 3-7 of Regulations for the universities and Colleges Act
- Your scientific experience must be primarily in the field of MR technology and/or molecular imaging in cancer (or a comparable relevant field).
- Relevant fields include MR physics and methodology, applications of quantitative and functional MRI and molecular imaging in cancer (in vivo and ex vivo), personalized medicine, and development of cancer biomarkers.
- The appointee must be able to document extensive professional qualifications and scientific competence within one or more of the relevant research fields listed above.
- Proven ability to obtain external research funding from acknowledged national and international sources.
- The appointee must be fluent in written and oral English.
- In addition to the requirements for basic educational competence, you must also document:
- The development of the quality of your own teaching and supervision of students over time
- Broad experience as a supervisor, preferably at a master’s/PhD level
- Participation in improving the quality of education in a professional environment
For appointment as a professor, an academic level conforming to established national standards is required.
Associate professor:
You must have the qualifications required for the position of Associate Professor in the field of MR technology and molecular imaging, as outlined in § 3-6 of Regulations for the universities and Colleges Act
- Your PhD, or comparable academic work, must be within the field of MR technology and/or molecular imaging (or a comparable relevant field).
- Relevant academic fields include MR physics and methodology, applications of quantitative and functional MRI and molecular imaging in cancer (in vivo and ex vivo), personalized medicine, and development of cancer biomarkers.
- The appointee must be able to document extensive professional qualifications and scientific competence within one or more of the relevant research fields listed above.
- Proven ability to obtain external research funding from acknowledged national and international sources.
- The appointee must be fluent in written and oral English.
Applicable to both positions:
You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations . If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.
New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.
Preferred qualifications
- Documented experience in MR technology/molecular imaging, including development or application of advanced methods.
- Experience with interdisciplinary research and collaboration, particularly within medicine, life sciences and health.

As a Professor/Associate Professor (code 1013 /1011 ) you are normally paid depending on qualifications and seniority. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

- A 5-years research plan
- Details of projects for which you have served as project manager, including information on financing, duration, and scope

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.
In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates. Our assessment of the pedagogical skills will be based on documented pedagogical material, forms of presentation in your academic works, teaching experience, PhD, and Masters supervision, and any other relevant pedagogical background. Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration, and an open scientific practice will be recognized.
