Job Description: Researcher position, Antibody Engineering - University of Oslo – UCB Pharma industry collaborative project.

24 month antibody engineering post-doc project with Prof Jan-Terje Andersen in collaboration with UCB Pharma’s UK Antibody Engineering team.

Role overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative post-doctoral level scientist to join us in a 2-year UCB funded collaboration with Prof Jan-Terje Andersen.  As a laboratory-based research scientist, you will be focussed on a specific antibody engineering goal which is of interest to UCB and the wider therapeutic antibody community.

Who you’ll work with
The successful candidate will be based in Prof Andersen’s lab at the University of Oslo (UiO) but will be co-supervised by UCB antibody science leaders in the team of Dr David Humphrey, Slough U.K.

Responsibilities and activities 

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for all practical laboratory work and communication aspects of the project.
  • The project has a clear engineering starting point. Key enabling reagents are available, empowering a rapid project start.
  • We encourage and value novel scientific input and innovation from the candidate and Prof Andersen.
  • You will be responsible for antibody engineering design, expression and purification. You will perform downstream quality control assays, proof of concept cell-based assays and initiation of mouse in vivo assays, if required.
  • You will be required to document results accurately, communicate progress with colleagues and collaborators, present at group meetings and write up the project into a publication ready format.

Personal Qualifications

A PhD level researcher with a demonstrable knowledge of and experience in a range of lab skills including:

  • Molecular biology  
  • Antibody expression & purification
  • Antibody functional characterisation
  • In vitro cell-based assays
  • Experience and licence to work with mouse in vivo models (highly beneficial)

About you
  • A desire to make an impact in the antibody world and to join a unique industry – academic interaction.
  • A thorough understanding of antibodies along with details influencing their therapeutic use such as expression, purification, stability, serum half-life and modes of action.
  • Ability to work effectively both as a team player and as an independent worker.
  • A highly motivated individual able to independently initiate research and drive the project through to a completed publication . You will be the kind of person who wants to make an impact and ‘get the job done’.
  • Demonstrable ability to multi-task and balance lab work, literature research, written work and project communication simultaneously. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with strong English language skills.
