We are looking for an experienced Geomechanics Engineer to support the delivery of advanced geomechanics and digital well-planning solutions.
In this role, you will combine geomechanics expertise with digital subsurface workflows and collaborate with customers and multidisciplinary teams across subsurface, drilling and well engineering.
You will support well-planning and operational decision-making by integrating geomechanical models with geological, petrophysical, drilling and well data.
You will also contribute to the development, improvement and adoption of digital geomechanics workflows and help ensure that relevant subsurface information is readily available throughout the well lifecycle.
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of geomechanics, well engineering and digital technology while contributing to customer projects, operational performance and the continued development of integrated technical solutions.
Your ResponsibilitiesAs a Geomechanics Engineer, you will provide technical expertise throughout project execution and support the delivery of safe, efficient and reliable solutions to our customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide geomechanics technical support throughout the sales, project and service delivery process.
- Develop, maintain and apply geomechanical models and wellbore stability workflows to support well planning and operational decisions.
- Support well planning activities by integrating subsurface, geomechanics and drilling information.
- Collect and prepare relevant subsurface data, including 3D structural surfaces, well trajectories and geomechanical models.
- Support data integration and synchronization between Petrel, Techlog, DrillPlan and Geomechanics Insights.
- Participate in customer sessions and provide geomechanics and Geomechanics Insights support to multidisciplinary teams.
- Work with 3D Mechanical Earth Models (3D MEM), including synchronization of planned well trajectories, calculation of mud-weight and wellbore stability windows, and integration of results into digital well planning workflows.
- Identify, document and report software or workflow issues and collaborate with product and technical teams to resolve them.
- Understand and reproduce existing methodologies and equations used for rock strength, pore pressure, in-situ stress and wellbore stability calculations.
- Develop and improve Techlog Geomechanics workflows, including the use of Python where required for specialized calculations.
- Develop technical documentation, workflow guides and presentations, and provide support and training to users during technology adoption.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows through new technologies, automation and more efficient ways of working.
- Provide technical support during operational incidents and contribute to technical investigations and lessons learned when required.
- Contribute to technical proposals, tenders and the evaluation of new business opportunities.
- Stay current with developments in geomechanics, digital subsurface technologies and industry best practices.
- Contribute to technical knowledge sharing, publications and engagement with customers, universities and professional communities.
We are looking for someone who combines a strong technical foundation in geomechanics, well planning and execution with an interest in digital workflows, integration and technology adoption.
You enjoy solving complex technical problems and working across traditional discipline boundaries.
You are comfortable collaborating with geoscientists, drilling and well engineers, software specialists and customer teams, and you can translate geomechanical concepts into practical recommendations that support well design and operational decisions.
You are curious about new technologies and motivated to improve the way geomechanics is integrated into modern digital well planning workflows.
Background and ExperienceWe are looking for candidates with:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geomechanics, Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Geophysics, Rock Mechanics or another relevant technical discipline.
- Relevant professional experience in geomechanics, within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of 1D and 3D Mechanical Earth Models (MEM).
- Experience with wellbore stability analysis, including pore pressure, in-situ stress, rock mechanical properties and mud-weight window calculations.
- Experience with geomechanics software and digital subsurface workflows.
- Experience with Techlog Geomechanics and/or JewelSuite is highly desirable.
- Experience with Petrel, particularly 3D subsurface models and surfaces, is an advantage.
- Experience integrating subsurface and drilling/well planning workflows is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Python or other scripting and automation tools is an advantage.
- Good understanding of drilling and well planning processes and how geomechanics influences well design and operational risk.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a customer-facing environment.
- Professional proficiency in English.
- Experience with Delfi, DrillPlan and Geomechanics Insights would be considered an advantage; however, training can be provided for candidates with a strong geomechanics background and demonstrated ability to learn new digital technologies.
You will bring a combination of technical depth, curiosity and collaboration.
You are comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges while working closely with others to find practical solutions.
You are motivated by continuous learning and enjoy exploring how digital technologies, automation and integrated workflows can improve well planning and geomechanics decision-making.
Most importantly, you are interested in applying geomechanics to real operational challenges and helping customers make better, safer and more efficient well planning decisions.
