The Department for Battery Technology at IFE is once again expanding. We are looking for a highly driven and innovative researcher to join our team and work at the interface between battery cells, modules and systems. At IFE, we collaborate closely with Norwegian and foreign industry partners as well as with internationally recognized research organizations.
The battery market is growing. The industry is constantly exploring new paths for electrification and large-scale energy storage, which comes with new challenges. At IFE, we strive to understand and support this growing application of batteries.This will be your role.
Your scientific contributions will be to understand the application and how to match this with the ideal battery system considering relevant battery performance indicators. Through industrial collaboration, as well as with the broader team at IFE, you will develop an understanding for the real-world needs and opportunities related to the use of battery technology systems.
Job description
You will be part of R&D activities in the field of battery technology systems within the framework of national and international R&D projects. In addition, you will be defining new projects through the interphase with industry and academia. Depending on applicant experience, daily tasks will include research work within projects, project management, supervision of other co-workers and/or students, and development of future projects in collaboration with department staff and industry.
Topics include:
- Advanced battery lifetime testing and characterization
- Development of new methods and algorithms for performance analysis and/or diagnostics across scales – from cell to system level
- Work towards electrification and grid solutions
- Modelling on battery cell and system level (including thermal modelling)
- Generation of new projects within the field of battery systems
- Managing research projects with national and international partners
- Publish results in leading peer-reviewed journals
- Present recent work at internationally relevant conferences
Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent within chemistry, physics, data science, material science or power electronics or equivalent work experience
- Experience in working with battery technology, battery system integration or energy systems
- Experience with experimental testing, data interpretation and analysis is beneficial
- Basic modelling & programming skills, more advanced programming skills are beneficial
- Industry experience is beneficial
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
