About the position

A position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Reproductive Biotechnology is available at the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Applied Ecology, Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology, University of Inland Norway.  

Starting date is 01.08.2026 or as soon as possible. Place of work is Campus Hamar.
The position is 80%-100% (three-year full time) within the Collaborative Project period of four years.


Responsibilities and tasks 

The position is associated with a four-year Collaborative Project to Meet Societal and Industry-related Challenges financed by FFL/JA and The Research Council of Norway, entitled “Advancing Livestock Reproduction for Sustainable Breeding Through Integrative Functional Analysis of Gametes”. 

The project will combine advanced reproductive biotechnologies and cutting-edge methods to address critical issues in sperm and oocyte biology, fertilization, and healthy embryogenesis. In vitro and in vivo produced embryos and embryo transfer are useful in breeding as tools to accelerate genetic gain. This project will characterize factors related to in vitro maturation of oocytes and study key proteins and their effects on embryo development. The postdoctoral research fellow’s main tasks will be IVF experiments, analysis of oocytes, embryo development, and molecular biology analysis. The project is in close collaboration with the breeding companies Geno SA, Tyr SA and Norsvin SA, and the University of Oslo.


Qualifications

Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in biotechnology, cell biology, molecular biology or closely related discipline.

Qualification requirements:
  • Interest and experience in the field of fertility and reproductive biology
  • Practical laboratory experience with analysis of mammalian gametes or embryos
  • Extensive experience with in vitro fertilization experiments 
  • Molecular biology techniques (RNA isolation from limited cells, RT-qPCR) 
  • Fluorescence microscopy or confocal laser scanning microscopy
  • Microinjection
  • Good communication skills in English 
Desired qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with oocytes from mammalian species
  • Experience with porcine IVF will be considered an advantage
  • Statistical analysis 
  • Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams
  • Peer-reviewed publications within the research field
