About the positionA 3-year position as PhD fellow is vacant at our institution. The position is linked to research on late effects after infections, in particularly post-infectious chronic fatigue. The overarching aims is to understand the role of the immune system in this condition. While immune alterations have been documented in previous research on post-infectious chronic fatigue, the underlying causes and consequences of these alterations remain to be fully understood. The position is affiliated with the research group PAEDIA, which has two decades of experiences in chronic fatigue research, and heads an international consortium of post-infectious cohort studies (COFFI -- Collaborative of Fatigue Following Infection, www.coffi-collaborative.com). The position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
Arbeidsoppgaver
Working tasksThe person holding the position is supposed to conduct immunological laboratory analyses of acquired biological specimens from post-infectious cohort studies, such as flowcytometric analyses and functional in-vitro assays of viable peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Other working tasks include statistical analyses of the relationship between laboratory results and clinical data, and drafting of scientific papers. Close collaboration with and supervision from other researchers in the PAEDIA research group will be provided.
Kvalifikasjoner (overskrift)
QualificationsThe ideal applicant has completed education at the master’s level (medicine, natural sciences) and has a keen interest in research. Other important qualifications include:
- High skills in scientific writing and oral presentation
- Willingness to receive supervision, and to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Strong ability for independent work
Previous experiences from laboratory work is also considered an important qualification, but is not mandatory for potential applicants.
