Eltorque is a global leader in electric actuators and valve control systems for the maritime and onshore industries. We are driving the shift to cleaner, smarter, fully electric valve control by replacing traditional hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
With more than 150,000 actuators installed across 1,200+ vessels, we pride ourselves on rugged, reliable, low-maintenance systems that deliver real-time feedback, energy efficiency, and long operational lifetime. Our mission is to lead the maritime green revolution - and we’re looking for talented engineers to help build the control systems of tomorrow.
What You’ll DoAs a Software Engineerat Eltorque, you will:
-
Design, develop and maintain software applications that integrate with our electric valve actuators and design, develop and maintain embedded firmware solutions for our electric valve actuators (Python, C / C++).
-
Write application logic, drivers, and interfaces (firmware and higher-level code) that run on industrial controllers and embedded platforms.
-
Develop and maintain communication stacks and protocols (e.g. CANopen, Modbus, digital/analog I/O) to integrate actuators with PLCs, HMIs, and higher-level SCADA or server systems.
-
Implement features like fault detection, failsafe logic, status reporting, configuration management, and remote diagnostics.
-
Participate in system testing, commissioning, field support, and troubleshooting of control logic in real-world installations.
-
Collaborate cross-functionally with electronics, mechanics, and test engineers to deliver complete, robust solutions.
-
Document your designs, code, and system architectures, and collaborate in code reviews and continuous improvement.
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Cybernetics, Mechatronics, or similar.
-
Embedded software skills (C, C++ or similar), writing code that runs close to hardware.
-
Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g. CANopen, Modbus, RS-485, analog/digital I/O).
-
Experience integrating control logic with hardware: sensors, actuators, power and signal interfaces.
-
Debugging & diagnostics skills --- ability to root-cause issues in embedded/PLC systems in lab and field settings.
-
Good software engineering practices: version control, modular design, testing, documentation.
-
Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Basic knowledge of Norwegian.
-
3-5 years related industrial experience.
-
Experience with actuator systems, valve control, or flow control systems (particularly in maritime or industrial domains).
-
Knowledge of safety / failsafe systems, redundant communication (e.g. Dual CAN) and fault-tolerant control.
-
Exposure to real-time operating systems, HMI/SCADA, or PLC-to-enterprise integrations.
-
Familiarity with configuration tools, remote update mechanisms, or firmware update strategies.
-
Experience with simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, or system-level validation. Experience with test automation (CI/CD) (Jenkins, Robot Framework...)
-
Passion for sustainability, green technologies, and innovation in maritime control systems.
-
Your work has real impact: increased efficiency, reduced environmental footprint, and enhanced safety in mission-critical systems.
-
You’ll be part of a tight-knit, international team working across software, electronics, and mechanical domains.
-
Exposure to cutting-edge industrial hardware, communication protocols, and field deployments.
-
A supportive environment to learn, grow, and innovate --- from concept to deployment.
-
Opportunities for professional development, and international exposure as Eltorque serves global markets.
