Astrup Fearnley Museet is one of the leading contemporary art museums in the Nordic region. The museum manages the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection and presents rotating exhibitions featuring works from the collection as well as new productions by artists from around the world. We are hiring an Assistant Curator who will play a central role in supporting the museum to realize it’s exhibition program, publications, scholarly research, and public programming. This full-time position reports to the museum’s Director.
Key Responsibilities:-
Actively support the research, planning, and coordination of temporary exhibitions and the display of the collection, including communication, artist research, and checklist preparation in dialog with Director and Senior Curator

Support exhibition design, layout, and installation in collaboration with curatorial and technical teams

Develop and manage smaller curatorial projects and assist in commissioning new works

Write and edit interpretative texts, including exhibition texts, catalog essays, and digital content

Manage relationships with artists, lenders, and institutions, including logistics and travel arrangements

Monitor and reconcile exhibition budgets and support grant applications and reporting
-
Coordinate museum publications and public programming in collaboration with internal and external partners

Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth operations, promotion, and delivery of curatorial projects and events

Master’s degree in curatorial studies, art history or a related field
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a curatorial assistant, assistant curator or equivalent role within a cultural institution

Strong knowledge of both Norwegian and international contemporary art
-
Broad network and familiarity with current discourses in the field of contemporary art
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Norwegian and English
-
Experience with grant writing and reporting is preferred

Excellent computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office suite
-
Exceptional research, writing, and cultural interpretation skills

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Ability to contribute creatively and intellectually to the museum’s program

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Demonstrated experience in curatorial practice or transferable experience

Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure

Passion for contemporary art and art history

Problem-solving mindset and eagerness to learn
