Hydro Aluminium Metal a leading supplier of extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum with a global production network of around 5,000 employees. With primary metal production facilities in Europe, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Qatar, and recycling facilities throughout Europe and in the U.S., two-thirds of our primary aluminum production is based on renewable energy. About the job and your team
Hydro Aluminium Metal is dedicated to improving safety for all our employees every day. We are now seeking an engaged and dedicated individual to strengthen our HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) efforts in Porsgrunn, with a special focus on the operations of HalZero.
Help shape the future of sustainable aluminium production. As a global leader in the aluminium industry, Hydro is committed to advancing new and existing technologies that contribute to a greener, more sustainable world. Our focus is on transforming natural resources into high-performance products that serve industries critical to society, through continuous innovation and operational excellence.
In December 2021, we introduced HalZero, a revolutionary CO2-emission-free process for producing primary aluminium. By December 2023, we began construction of the HalZero Test Facility in Porsgrunn, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability agenda. Our efforts to decarbonize aluminium production were recognized at COP28, where we were honored as an Energy Transition Changemaker. HalZero is just one of many initiatives driving Hydro's commitment to near-zero CO2 aluminium.
The TOS unit, comprising 280 specialists based in Norway and Germany, plays a pivotal role in realizing these goals. TOS supports Hydro's commercial and operational units, focusing on profitability and sustainability improvements in the short and medium term, while also leading long-term R&D projects like HalZero.
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven HSE Manager to join our Technology Development team. In this role, you will contribute to the development and industrialization of the HalZero process, working within a multidisciplinary team of leading technologists. You will engage in pioneering projects central to the success of HalZero and other key R&D projects across TOS and Hydro, making a direct impact on our goal of delivering zero CO2 aluminium.
Responsibilities* Develop and lead HalZero and Porsgrunn's improvement projects and initiatives within HSE.
* Follow up on the implementation of HSE work together with the leadership team.
* Develop and improve established standards and processes for HSE with users, both for existing operations and future projects.
* Lead emergency preparedness and security work in collaboration with the industrial park.
* Participate in and lead investigations of selected serious incidents and ensure learning from these investigations.
* Drive proactive safety work, such as WOC (Workplace Observation Checklist) and risk assessments.
* Contribute to AM's professional network within HSE.
* 3-5 years of experience in industry, preferably within safety/HSE.
* Experience in leading and facilitating continuous improvement work and projects.
* Experience in change management is an advantage but not a requirement.
* Education at college or university level.
* Fluent in English and Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both written and spoken.
* You have strong collaboration skills and communicate easily with people from different parts of the organization.
* You thrive on improvement work, work proactively and closely with the business, and have strong execution capabilities.
* Work Environment and Development: Work in a learning arena with high competence and good opportunities for personal development, and be part of a team that emphasizes good collaboration and well-being.
* Innovation and Technology: With our focus on digitalization, you can acquire new skills and contribute to strategic initiatives and improvement projects.
* International Environment: Build global working relationships and have the opportunity to travel to our factories domestically and internationally.
* Improvement Work That Makes a Difference: Participate in central projects that set the standard in the industry.
