The special engineer will join the Hybrid Technology Hub (Centre of Excellence) at Oslo University Hospital/University of Oslo and take part in a research project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society (www.kreftforeningen.no). In the tumor microenvironment, the interactions between tumor/vascular/immune cells affect the integrity of the system and promote metastasis and resistance to therapy. The project aims to develop a microfluidic Tumor‑on‑Chip (ToC) platform for drug testing. The work will be developed within an interdisciplinary research environment combining cancer biology, immunology, vascularization and advanced organ-on- chip technology.
The work will include culture of endothelial cells and 3D organoids in microfluidic platforms that have been developed at the Centre. The laboratory engineer will also assist with RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, ELISA and flow cytometry.
Key tasks
The hired engineer can be assigned independent operational tasks within technical support for scientific activity and administration. Examples of all task fields may be:
- Human cell culture, stock and supply, cell passage, cryopreservation.
- Immortalized cell lines culture in the format of organoid/spheroid formation, including culture of cells and organoids/spheroids in microfluidic system.
- Perform imaging (confocal, live microscopy), immunohistochemistry, and cytokine profiling (ELISA), probably flow cytometry assays.
- Test different combinations of drugs and monitor treatment response.
- Molecular biology experiments including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, agarose gel preparation and contribute to sample preparation for sequencing.
- Contributing to the day-to-day running of the lab, including ordering system, autoclave, restocking all labs, aliquoting, mycoplasma tests and cleaning routines.
- Maintaining excellent laboratory notebooks (manual and/or electronic) to document all aspects of the experimental work.

- Minimum of two-year laboratory experience is required.
- Experience with human or mouse, both primary and immortalized cell culture is required.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques is required.
- Experience in 3D cultures, organoids, or complex co-culture systems is an advantage.
- Experience with human stem cell culture is an advantage.
- Experience in high-content imaging, confocal microscopy, or live-cell tracking is an advantage.
- Experience in immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry or any other type of staining, is an advantage.
- Expertise in handling of tumor organoids will be an advantage.
