Pastoral care and welfare counsellor / Miljøarbeider 

About the position

This is a temporary part-time (60%) position, available from August 2026 until July 2027.

What does the job involve?

The counsellor will:

• lead student wellbeing and counselling in the primary and secondary departments
• provide individual and group counselling sessions to students of secondary school age
• maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and safeguarding requirements
• have knowledge of the Norwegian law 12A and its requirements and be involved in any 12A processes at school
• liaise with external agencies when appropriate
• communicate effectively between school and home
• offer staff training on maintaining good classroom behaviour and teenage mental health awareness
• be a crisis responder to students in need

Qualifications and experience

The following are relevant:

• degree in counselling, psychology, or related field
• professional counselling qualification 
• experience working with adolescents (ages 11–16)
• experience in an international or school setting preferred

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to build trust with students, staff, and parents
• High level of confidentiality and professional judgement
• Understanding of adolescent development
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Friendly and approachable disposition
