Andøya Space is a leading provider of launch site services for sounding rockets, launch vehicles and satellites in Europe. We are looking for a highly motivated Flight Safety Engineer to help us ensure the safety of launch operations together with our clients.
Your workplace will be at our wholly owned subsidiary, Andøya Spaceport, which is responsible for delivering Andøya Space's satellite launch services.
As a member of the Flight Safety team within the Compliance, Security & Safety Department, you will provide expert advice on in-flight safety for orbital launch operations, safety systems, and the risks associated with flight-related hazards. In this role, you will conduct and assess technical analyses and reports, track and manage safety requirements, perform simulations and analyse data, and support our customers, systems team, and operations personnel on flight safety matters.
You will also contribute to the development of safety analysis software and systems, as well as participate in ongoing initiatives to expand our flight safety and licensing support services portfolio.
For this position, we are seeking candidates with experience in systems or safety engineering from a relevant industry. Experience with satellite, launch vehicle, or launch/missile range safety systems will be considered highly beneficial.
The main headquarters of Andøya Space and Andøya Spaceport are located at Andøya. We also have offices in Tromsø and Oslo. The prospective Flight Safety Engineer will be located at our office in Skøyen, Oslo.
- Conduct technical analyses and perform simulations to assess flight-related hazards.
- Develop safety analysis software and systems.
- Assess internal and customer technical analyses and reports related to ground-based and onboard safety systems.
- Provide expert advice to our customers, systems team, and operations personnel on flight safety.
- Prepare safety plans and procedures.
- Track and manage safety requirements and provide licensing support related to regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to the development of our future flight safety service portfolio and flight safety-related R&D projects.
- Support and maintain a strong and just safety culture.
- Experience in systems or safety engineering from a relevant industry (e.g., satellites, launch vehicles, tracking systems, or launch/missile ranges).
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, such as engineering, physics, mathematics, or computer science.
- Demonstrated experience developing scientific or numerical software in Python and/or modern C++.
- Experience with physics modelling software, such as OpenFOAM, Ansys STK, ASTOS, or DRAMA, is considered beneficial.
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards, including 14 CFR Part 450, RCC 319, and RCC 324, is considered beneficial.
- Fluency in written and spoken English

- The position entails strict requirements regarding security suitability, and must be able to obtain security clearance level HEMMELIG / NATO SECRET according to the Norwegian Security Act.
