Do you want to spend the winter season in Arctic Norway, surrounded by reindeer, Northern Lights, spectacular nature and Sami culture?

Tromsø Lapland is looking for reliable, service-minded and hardworking Camp Hosts to join our team at Breivikeidet, approximately 45 minutes from Tromsø. This is a practical, physical and outdoor-based role where you will be an important part of the daily operation of our camp.

Important information before applying

Please read the following carefully before applying:

  • Due to a high number of applications, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will receive a reply.

  • We do not sponsor or cover flights, visas, travel costs or accommodation.

  • You must already have the necessary paperwork and legal right to work in Norway. We do not sponsor work visas for this position.

  • This is a genuine outdoor working position. Winter temperatures can drop below --30°C, and applicants must be prepared to work outdoors in demanding Arctic weather conditions.

  • Tromsø Lapland offers staff accommodation close to camp at a reasonable cost. Accommodation is only available to full-time employees and is subject to availability.

  • Employees may bring their own car. However, pets are not allowed at the camp or in staff accommodation, except by special agreement in advance.

  • Applications that do not include all required documents listed below will not be evaluated.

This is a full-time seasonal position , starting in either early or mid-October and running until approximately mid- to late April.

About the role

As a Camp Host, you will help ensure that the camp is clean, safe, welcoming and ready for guests every day. The work is varied and practical, and you will rotate between different tasks while learning the daily routines of camp operations.

We operate three or more guest departures per day during the season and regularly host large groups of guests. This means the camp can be busy, fast-paced and demanding, particularly around arrivals, activity periods and departures.

You will work closely with guests, guides, reindeer and the rest of the camp team. Some shifts may involve early mornings, evenings, weekends and work in challenging weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming guests and assisting with outdoor activities

  • Supporting guides and helping ensure smooth daily camp operations

  • Preparing and serving simple food, as well as hot and cold drinks, to guests

  • Assisting with reindeer feeding, welfare and daily routines

  • Preparing food and supplies for the reindeer

  • Maintaining fires, wood stoves, campfires and firewood supplies

  • Cleaning and maintaining camp areas, sanitary facilities, equipment and guest spaces

  • Helping keep the camp safe, tidy and presentable throughout the day

  • Carrying out other practical tasks as needed during the season

Internal opportunities

We have several functions at our camp with different areas of responsibility. If one of these connect more with you than others, make it known in your application. All of our staff get training in different fields throughout the season, and are expected to be able to step in doing different things throughout the season, as most work responsibilities for daily operations are shared.

As of now we have certain specializations ongoing for the following functions:

  • Snow removal and maintenance. Driver's license class T (Tractor) is required for operating our tractor, snowblower and snowcat. We also use snowmobiles and ATVs for our maintenance work around the camp. Experience with carpentry, electrical work, plumbing or welding is considered a plus.

  • Indoor work related to food service and simple food preparation, done in our industrial kitchen with food service and serving done in our traditional Lavvo or wooden Gamme.

  • Work in our souvenir shop, selling authentic, traditional sami arts and crafts objects and clothing

  • Photography/Content production for our social media page

  • Suitable and eligible employees may have the opportunity to apply internally for work connected to our reindeer sledding activities.

This position requires a high level of physical fitness, a responsible attitude, confidence around animals and preferably previous experience working with reindeer, horses, dogs or other animals. Reindeer sledding work can be physically demanding and requires consistency, good judgement and a strong focus on animal welfare and guest safety.

What we offer

  • A unique opportunity to live and work in Arctic Norway for the winter season

  • A friendly and fun work environment with a good mix of routines and challenges

  • Training and guidance in camp routines and daily operations; quality workwear is provided

  • Work in an international team with colleagues and guests from around the world

  • A varied job with practical outdoor work and close contact with reindeer

  • The opportunity to travel to and from Tromsø free of charge on our buses when capacity permits

  • The possibility of staff accommodation close to camp for full-time employees, at an affordable cost and subject to availability. Our scenic accommodation houses are located next to a local bus stop and close to the ferry connection to Lyngen

  • Good work-life balance, with plenty of time to enjoy recreational activities during your time off

  • Competitive pay

  • Communicates confidently in English; additional languages are an advantage

  • Is reliable, responsible and able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Enjoys practical, physical work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Is comfortable around animals and enjoys working with people

A valid car driver's licence is also a plus. Experience with winter driving, and licences fortractor and snowmobile will be considered an advantage.

Work schedule

The normal work schedule is four days on and four days off, with team rotations planned throughout the season.

Please be aware that couples or friends applying together will not be able to work in the same teams for the entire season. Rotations are organised according to operational needs, staffing requirements and the needs of the camp. We expect all employees to be flexible regarding their assigned team and work schedule.
