Permanent and full time leader position at UWC RCN from August 1st 2026.

UWC Red Cross Nordic seeks a dedicated and visionary Experiential Learning Leader to join our Educational Leadership Team, to a full time, permanent position, starting August 1st 2026.

The successful candidate will guide the vision, design and implementation of learning beyond the classroom, ensuring coherence and quality across outdoor education, service learning, partnerships, and project-based learning.

This role is central to advancing the College’s mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future and to embed the RCN Competency Framework across all experiential and residential learning.

The Experiential Learning Leader works closely with the Deputy Rektor, Director of Extra-Curricular Activities, Director of External Relations, UWC Connect, and educational staff, ensuring that our programmes inspire peacebuilding, environmental stewardship, and humanitarian engagement in line with our Red Cross and Nordic values.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and coherence for experiential learning across the College.

• Embed RCN’s Competency Framework into outdoor, service, and project-based learning.

• Oversee the design and delivery of programmes such as Friluftsveka, Project Weeks, CAS, and Streams.

• Collaborate with external partners (e.g. Red Cross, Nobel Peace Centre, Rafto Foundation, NIBIO) and seek new mission-aligned partnerships.

• Ensure student safety and well-being through robust risk assessment and supervision procedures.

• Support and approve student-led initiatives such as the Aurora Project and Changemakers.

• Design professional development and support for staff to integrate experiential methodologies into teaching and advising.

• Evaluate and communicate the impact of experiential learning programmes across the College.

Key Qualifications and Attributes

Essential:

• Proven experience in experiential education, outdoor learning, or project-based pedagogy.

• Strong leadership and organisational skills with experience in programme development.

• Demonstrated capacity to foster and sustain institutional partnerships.

• Commitment to the UWC mission, Red Cross principles, and Nordic values.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.

• Relevant qualifications or significant professional experience in experiential education.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with the IB CAS programme or experiential learning frameworks.

• Experience in residential or international education.

• Understanding of Nordic friluftsliv.

• Experience in peacebuilding, humanitarian action, or community engagement.

• Teaching qualifications or experience in secondary/IB education.

• Knowledge of Norwegian (or willingness to learn).

UWC Red Cross Nordic

UWC Red Cross Nordic offers a two-year residential educational experience to 200 students aged 16--19, representing over 90 nationalities. All students study for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and engage in an extensive experiential and residential programme designed to develop social, emotional, and intercultural competencies.

Founded in 1995, the College is located on the shores of Flekkefjord in Western Norway.
