Amnesty International’s Global Human Rights Education (HRE) Team is looking for an Instructional Designer to create inspiring, accessible and learner‑centred online learning experiences across a range of human rights topics. You’ll help turn complex issues into learning that is clear, engaging and action‑oriented — reaching diverse audiences across countries, cultures and contexts.
You will bring together expertise in pedagogy, digital learning and human rights to support Amnesty’s mission of empowering people everywhere to understand, claim and defend their rights.
Working closely with colleagues across Amnesty International’s global movement, you will help ensure that our educational offerings are impactful, accessible and innovative.
You’ll join a highly collaborative global HRE team within Amnesty International’s Campaigns and Education Programme, working across the movement to strengthen education as a tool for human rights impact. You will be located in Amnesty International Norway's office in Oslo, and here you will be part of a engaged, friendly and dedicated community of colleagues.
Amnesty International actively seeks employees with diverse backgrounds, experiences and skills, as diversity is essential to the success of our work. We therefore work deliberately to broaden our perspectives and, among qualified candidates, will prioritise applicants who bring backgrounds and competencies that are currently underrepresented in our organisation.
Amnesty International is committed to building an inclusive working environment rooted in respect, trust and kindness, and we welcome applications from everyone who shares our values.
We are ideally looking for a candidate who can start in early July; however, the start date can be discussed and agreed upon together.
If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, we encourage you to apply. Please submit both your application and CV in English.
Key responsibilities
As our Instructional Designer, you will design and develop high‑quality online HRE products, working closely with colleagues across Amnesty International. You’ll bring strong pedagogy and digital learning craft — and combine it with a passion for human rights and learner inclusion.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating needs into learning journeys, project‑managing collaborative course creation, and raising the bar on quality, accessibility and learner engagement across platforms.
You will:
- Design and draft online HRE products
- Deliver educational outputs to agreed timelines and budgets, ensuring a consistently high standard
- Work with global, regional and national teams to strengthen HRE as a tool for impact
- Contribut to programme development and learning materials
- Support the effective operation and development of the Amnesty Human Rights Academy
- Support coordination of team activities and outputs
Skills and experience
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy, participatory approaches and adult learning models
- Demonstrated experience in learner‑centred instructional design and creating engaging online learning experiences for different audiences and platforms
- Experience managing an instructional design process end‑to‑end, including coordinating inputs from multiple stakeholders
- Sensitivity to learners’ different needs and contexts, including global cultures and learning preferences
- Experience with universal design/accessibility in web‑based learning content
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- A strong commitment to human rights, through education, activism or related work
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse, international environment — often with competing deadlines
Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who:
- Is learner‑centred and able to translate complex topics into clear, engaging learning journeys
- Works collaboratively across teams, cultures and time zones, and contributes to a supportive collegial community
- Is proactive and organised, with strong follow‑through and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Brings sound judgement and stays calm and solution‑oriented under pressure and shifting deadlines
- Is curious and reflective, actively seeking feedback and using it to improve learning products
- Has a strong sense of quality and attention to detail, including accessibility and inclusive design
- Communicates with clarity, empathy and professionalism, aligned with Amnesty’s values
What we offer
This fixed‑term role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the world’s largest human rights organisation and to contribute to meaningful change. You will expand your professional network through a wide range of tasks and collaborations, and become part of a strong professional environment spanning pedagogy, human rights and civic engagement.
In addition, we offer:
- A meaningful role in one of the world’s leading human rights organisations
- An inclusive and supportive working environment with highly engaged colleagues
- A high degree of flexibility and the opportunity to shape your own working day
- Salary in accordance with agreement
