At Autronica, you're joining a leading innovator, manufacturer, and supplier of fire and gas safety systems worldwide. Our solutions protect lives and assets on land, at sea, and in demanding industries like petrochemical, oil, and gas. Headquartered in Trondheim, Norway's technology hotspot, we combine global presence with local expertise. Our greatest strength is our people: their expertise, creativity, and passion. Join us and make a difference.
About the roleDo you want to be part of our Trondheim-based R&D team working toward a safer future? At Autronica, our mission is to eliminate loss of life, injuries, and damage caused by fire and gas. We are expanding and creating a brand-new cross functional team---giving you the opportunity to be part of something fresh, with a clear purpose from day one.
We are looking for a motivated and structured Software Test Engineer to ensure the quality and reliability of our safety-critical systems. In this role, you will design, implement, and execute comprehensive test strategies across both our current production system and the next-generation platform under development.
Our technology stack is Linux-based. Legacy components are written in C/C++, Qt, NodeJS, and Bash, while newer modules are developed in Rust and Flutter. The system is module-based, communicating through APIs over TCP/IP and Unix pipes. Automated testing is primarily focused on the API level using Python.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our systems meet the highest standards for safety and performance, including compliance with standards such as IEC 61508 and EN 54. Your systematic approach and attention to detail will directly contribute to delivering robust solutions our customers can depend on --- and have a real impact on the safety and reliability of our systems.
Your ResponsibilitiesAs a Software Test Engineer you will:
-
Develop and implement comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test procedures.
-
Design and build automated API-level test frameworks using Python to validate system behavior efficiently and reliably.
-
Maintain and extend automated tests for both legacy and new modules.
-
Execute both manual and automated tests to validate overall system behavior.
-
Identify, document, and track software defects using appropriate tools.
-
Provide feedback on testability and potential risks based on system behavior during testing.
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes and automation strategies.
-
Ensure test strategies and execution support compliance with safety standards such as IEC 61508 and EN 54.
-
Participate in the full product lifecycle from requirements to release.
-
Stay current with testing best practices, automation tools, and validation strategies for modular and safety-critical systems.
As a Software Test Engineer you combine a systematic testing mindset with strong collaboration and automation skills. Detail-oriented and analytical, you ensure that quality is never compromised. You communicate clearly, work well in cross-functional teams, and bring a proactive approach to improving processes and tools. Self-motivated and curious, you enjoy learning new technologies and take pride in delivering high-quality, reliable software that has a direct impact on safety-critical environments.
-
Proficiency in Python, with experience writing automated tests.
-
Experience working in Linux environments, including shell scripting.
-
Understanding of software testing methodologies and automation frameworks.
-
Familiarity with CI pipelines and integration of automated tests into build and release processes.
-
Experience with test case management and defect tracking tools.
-
Ability to validate data using SQL queries during testing.
-
Familiarity with Agile development practices and tools like Jira and Git.
-
Awareness of safety and fire standards like IEC 61508 and EN 54 is beneficial.
-
Meaningful work in a mission-driven company.
-
Competitive salary and benefits.
-
A supportive and inclusive work culture.
-
6th week of paid vacation.
-
Free on-site car parking.
-
Flexible working hours.
-
Pension and insurance schemes.
-
Opportunities for growth through courses, events, and mentoring.
