Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Preschool Leader to join our Preschool team in a 50% position.The Preschool Leader is responsible for leading, planning, implementing, documenting, evaluating, and developing the pedagogical work within the preschool. Liaise and collaborate with the municipality and ensure compliance with Norwegian legislation. The role contributes to a safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment in line with the Norwegian Barnehageloven, the Rammeplan for barnehagen, and the values of OIS.

This is a part-time pedagogical management role. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues and families, guide and support other staff in everyday practice, and help ensure that the preschool programme is delivered in accordance with Norwegian requirements for pedagogiske ledere. The appointee must meet the qualification requirements for pedagogical leaders in Norwegian barnehager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the pedagogical work in the Preschool in line with the school's educational philosophy and the Norwegian barnehage framework

  • Plan, implement, document, evaluate, and further develop high-quality preschool practices that supports children's care, play, learning, development, participation, and wellbeing

  • Guide, support, and collaborate with assistants and other staff to ensure consistent and reflective pedagogical practice

  • Build positive and professional relationships with parents and guardians, and contribute to strong home-school cooperation

  • Contribute to observation, assessment, follow-up, planning meetings, parent meetings, transition processes, and wider preschool development work

  • Help ensure that practice is aligned with Barnehageloven, the Rammeplan, safeguarding expectations, and the mission and values of OIS

  • Liaise with the municipality and government. Completing required paperwork and other requested documentation. Completing yearly reports.


Qualifications and Requirements
  • Approved barnehagelærer qualification, or another three-year pedagogical higher education qualification with further education in barnehage pedagogy, recognised for appointment as pedagogisk leder in Norway

  • Meets applicable Norwegian language requirements for appointment in barnehage, including any requirements linked to foreign qualifications

  • Experience working in early childhood education / preschool settings, with strong understanding of child development and play-based learning

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide colleagues and build strong relationships with families

  • Appointment is subject to a satisfactory police certificate (politiattest) and any required recognition or approval of qualifications

  • Completed Styrerutdanning, or willing to undertake it after appointment.
