The Control Room and Interaction Design Department consists of experienced researchers and engineers with core expertise in interaction design, control room design, human-automation interaction, verification and validation, as well as the development of interfaces and associated software solutions. We also have expertise in nuclear process control and scenario development for laboratory studies.
Our vision is to ensure high performance in safety-critical digital control environments by designing solutions tailored to human cognitive capabilities. We design physical operational environments and visual interfaces for safe and effective human-machine interaction. Our expertise is relevant across several domains, including nuclear power, oil and gas, air traffic control, railways, maritime operations, mining, and renewable energy.
You are a curious and highly motivated nuclear process expert, with experience in control room operations and/or simulator training. You are able to understand and explain the technical details of current nuclear power plants but are also eager to develop and explore ideas for future reactors, new operational concepts, and solutions. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical support for a range of international projects concerning operational conditions and behavior in control rooms. These projects focus on both current reactors, small modular reactors (SMR), and other future highly automated nuclear power plants.
Job Responsibilities
- Participation in the international OECD NEA Halden HTO Project and other research activities (national and EU projects).
- Development of targeted scenarios in our simulation environment, Human Machine Laboratory (HAMMLAB), including preparation and control of the simulators for data collection, as well as observing, assessing, and interpreting human performance and behavior during and after the scenarios.
- Develop ideas for new research projects and initiate contact and collaboration with relevant research and industry partners.
- Project management in research and industry projects.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Experience as an operator in nuclear process control and/or as an instructor in a nuclear power plant training simulator.
- Experience in nuclear plant operations and/or nuclear plant training.
- Interest in digital control rooms, modernization, decommissioning, and simulators.
- Interest in programming is an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and preferably also in Norwegian and/or Swedish, enabling effective collaboration in both national and international teams
