The School of Communication, Leadership and Marketing has its academic focus in the areas of communication, leadership and organisation and marketing. These are also the names of the school's three departments: the Department of Communication, the Department of Leadership and Organisation and the Department of Marketing.
The programmes are closely related to practice and provide students with a good insight into the working life that they will encounter after completing their studies. The school is characterised by good educators and a high level of satisfaction in student surveys. The school has active researchers and research groups.
Kristiania University of Applied Sciences is offering a fully funded fellowship on its PhD programme in Communication and Leadership. The fellowship is for a project on leadership and communication in the future of work with insights from remote, hybrid and nonstandard work within the School of Communication, Leadership and Marketing. The successful applicant will be included in a team of researchers with ambitious plans to further develop research and pedagogical activities related to communication and leadership at the university.
The PhD project should aim to investigate the multilevel antecedents and mechanisms that link leadership and communication to organisational outcomes in the context of the future of work. It should contribute to the advancement of knowledge regarding the potential challenges, opportunities and emerging demands associated with leadership and communication, particularly in sustaining employee wellbeing and organisational effectiveness amid the evolving dynamics of work such as automation, artificial intelligence, flexible work models and the expansion of platform-based and gig employment. The project should employ a multilevel approach and methodological design that captures factors across different levels (e.g., cultural, societal, organisational, team and individual) to generate insights into effective leadership and communication in relation to outcomes relevant to the future of work such as social belonging, organisational identification, inclusion, loyalty, engagement, job insecurity, isolation, workplace loneliness and alienation.
The PhD candidate will:
- Design and conduct original research aligned with the project’s aim
- Engage in critical literature review and synthesis, and develop theoretical frameworks and conceptual models
- Collect and analyse data using appropriate qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods
- Conduct empirical research using multilevel methodological approaches and apply multilevel statistical programs for data analysis such as SPSS, R, Mplus and HLM
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences
- Contribute to collaborative research activities within the research group for Positive Organisational Behaviour and Wellbeing at Work (POWELL) and the Department of Leadership and Organisation
- Master’s degree (120 ECTS or equivalent) in a relevant subject area with a grade B or better on the master’s thesis and for the master’s degree overall. The master’s thesis must be a minimum of 30 ECTS or equivalent. The relevance of the subject areas is dependent on the type of project proposed by the candidate
- Relevant 180 ECTS bachelor’s degree
- Proficiency in written and spoken English (interviews and all communication will be in English)

- Curiosity and a strong motivation to carry out independent interdisciplinary research
- Good communication and cooperation skills
- The ability, desire and capacity to work independently, systematically and purposefully
- Orientation toward the completion of projects and the attainment of goals
Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.

- Master’s thesis
- A project proposal of up to 4 pages (max. 2,000 words, excluding references), written in English, outlining the candidate’s intended PhD research in relation to the described PhD project, including background, relevant literature, objectives, methods and expected contributions
Admission to the PhD programme is a requirement for taking up a position as a research fellow. The application must be submitted to the School of Doctoral Studies within three months of the start date. The PhD fellowship period is 3 years, and the earliest start date is 01.09.2026.
