The Cyber Security Engineer (OT & Vessel Systems) is responsible for ensuring secure and compliant operation of operational technology (OT) systems onboard vessels, covering both newbuilding projects and the existing fleet.

The role plays a key part in protecting safety‑critical operations and ensuring secure, reliable vessel operations across a global fleet.

The position works in close collaboration with:

  • Technical Department
  • Vessels / Ship Staff
  • IT & Cyber Security Department
  • Newbuilding Projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain OT cyber security principles, architecture, and standards 
  • Align vessel OT cyber security with corporate cyber security frameworks and policies 
  • Participate in newbuilding design and system integration from a cyber security perspective 
  • Perform and document OT cyber risk assessments 
  • Define secure solutions for sensor access, data extraction, and remote connectivity 
  • Support vessels and technical department with OT-related cyber incidents and system changes 
  • Act as subject matter expert in audits by class, flag state, and oil companies 
  • Ensure vessel OT cyber security aligns with relevant standards and guidelines (e.g. IEC 62443, IMO, NIST, class and oil company requirements

Background & Experience

  • Practical experience from vessels is highly valued, particularly experience as a Vessel Electrician or in a similar seagoing technical role 
  • Strong experience within cyber security and/or IT security, preferably in complex or regulated environments 
  • Higher education within IT, cyber security, or related fields (bachelor's degree or equivalent) is considered an advantage 
  • Good understanding of OT / ICS environments and IT/OT interfaces 
  • Familiarity with cyber security principles such as network security, system hardening, logging, and access control 
  • Maritime, offshore, or industrial automation experience is an advantage
 Relevant Certifications (Preferred / Beneficial) 
  • SANS / GIAC certifications (e.g. GICSP, GCIA, GCED) 
  • ISO/IEC 27001 (Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor) 
  • CISSP, CISM, or CISA 
  • IEC 62443 training or certification 
  • Experience with the NIST Cyber Security Framework
