Technical Support in Ship Classification offers global support to all DNV regions for vessel operations. Technical Support Norway is divided into 7 sections, with 5 units in Høvik and 2 technical helpdesk units in Houston, and Singapore. Emergency Response Service (ERS™) is one of the three groups in ERS™, Hull and Materials section in Technical support Norway.
In its essence the service provides shore-based damage control support and drift predictions to ships and floating offshore units of all types. In emergency response situations such as collisions, groundings, cargo shifting, loss of stability, water ingress, structural collapse, bulk cargo liquefactions, drifting and alike, endanger the survivability of a vessel, we perform calculations of residual buoyancy, stability and strength, evaluate the results and provide advice to the crew on board and to the shipping company on shore. We deliver the support by our duty teams consisting of duty team leader, stability expert, strength expert, offshore expert and drift prediction expert.
DNV ERS™ is leading provider of the service and is recognized by ship owners/managers, authorities, and marine insurers and is on standby 24/7 for over 4300 subscribed ships and offshore units. We work continuously to adapt, develop and improve the service, so that we can support vessels and operating companies in various emergency scenarios.
We are seeking an enthusiastic team member to join us and our dynamic multinational group in the daily work and in support to distressed vessels, training of customers, increase of market share, develop and maintain competence and to bring ERS™ into the future.
The work in ERS™ offers variety of tasks:
- Communication with customers
- Contracting and sales with preparation and follow up of offers and contracts.
- Customer meetings, internal and external presentations, seminars, webinars, etc.
- Preparation of input for marketing material and publications
- Preparation of ERS™ computer models and onboard documentation for the subscribed vessels.
- Taking part in the duty teams supporting vessels in distress
- Coordination and scheduling of damage control exercises
- Taking part in the duty teams supporting vessel and companies’ damage control exercises
- Maintenance and development of our systems, tools and deliverables.
- Taking part in joint industry projects
Successful applicants will be evaluated upon possession and combination of the following:
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Naval Architecture and or Marine Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience as ship surveyor
- Experience as Master Mariner, Chief officer, Chief or second engineer or other equivalent positions on board ships and offshore units
- Experience as stability and/or hull approval engineer
- Experience with NAPA software
- Experience as salvage naval architect
- Experience in customer interaction, presentations and sales
- IT programming skills would be an advantage

- Strong organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

- Additional language skills would be an advantage
