What does the job involve?

One of four core business areas in the company, the Marketing Midstream and Processing (MMP) organization is responsible for providing flow assurance to Equinor’s equity production, maximizing the value creation from this equity and Equinor’s mid and downstream assets and using this asset base to create significant value through commodity trading. Based on a strong track record Equinor has a strategically anchored and ambitious growth plan for its commodity trading business, building out both physical and financial trading.

Trading is organized into two units Crude Products and Liquids (“CPL”) and Gas and Power (G&P). CPL is responsible for crude, condensates and all liquid products across the barrel from LPG to Residue. Within the CPL organization we are currently looking to make selective hires into several key roles to deliver on our growth plans, including that of Traders and Trade desk analysts, supporting the global crude, products and gas liquids trading teams. Equinor’s liquids trading teams operates on a global basis with offices in Houston, Stamford, London, Stavanger and Singapore, handling close to 2mn barrels per day of physical crude oil (equity and 3rd party), Xkt products and 10 mill mt/yr of natural gas liquids (NGLs). The same trading desks also have material derivatives trading activity.

The successful candidate will join a Stavanger trading desk, where the role will work with the rest of the trading desk in Stavanger, but will also work closely with traders in the other locations. The role will predominantly be linked to physical and or derivative trading.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

Daily interact with traders in the Trading team to advise on trading strategies, opportunities and risks.

Maintain and develop models to provide dynamic analyses of physical demand/supply balances.

Provide views about main market drivers: cracks, products, seasonal effects, macroeconomics, geopolitics.

Develop regular market reports addressing topics of relevance to the trading desk on specific commodities.

Work together with traders and our desk analysis team to support digital development initiatives for cargo tracking, trade flow and pricing models.

Calculate diffs/premiums for relevant products and update curves and spreads, as well as run quantitative pricing analysis.

Liaise with and analyze data from consultants/news agencies.

Collaborate with the traders and market analysis to strengthen market intelligence and commercial knowledge.

Participate in the global analysis trading network and interact with other trading analysts.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant background. Work experience may compensate for educational background.

Experience with systems, databases and low code, no code (LCNC) development platforms (Power BI, Phyton and SQL).

Ability to effectively develop and utilize models and tools in a commercial environment through robust analytical and data management skills.

Able to identify and understand gross market trends and emerging markets.

Strong team player and customer oriented. Able to build good working relationships with various stakeholders and to gain credibility among them.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English.

Understanding and keen interest in energy and / or financial markets.

Experience in analytics is desirable, but experience from quant analysis and/or other commodities is beneficial.

Must be based in Stavanger or willing to relocate.
