The position
The Department of Technology and Safety (ITS) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a Postdoctoral position vacant in maritime learning analytics for applicants who have a keen interest in contributing to research on performance analysis and learning efficacy in the maritime domain.
ITS is organised underthe Faculty of Science and Technology and islocated at three campuses: Tromsø, Bardufoss and Harstad. The department has approximately 90 employees and approximately 500 students. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degree programmes as well asresearch in the areas of nauticalscience, aviation,societalsafety, environment, and international preparedness.
The position is a fixed term position for a duration of 2 years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.
The position has its workplace at Campus Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.
The position's field of research
This position will be funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research project entitled "Integrating Adaptive Learning in Maritime Simulator-Based Education and Training with Intelligent Learning System (i-MASTER)". The project explores how to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist teachers and students during distance learning and on-site maritime education, and make learning support available, anytime and anywhere, to students.
As a postdoctoral researcher on this research project, you would have the opportunity to co-lead a work package (WP), perform research on maritime learning analytics, design and develop novel algorithms and user interfaces, and to be included in the multi-disciplinary research team and the project consortium.

Qualifications
The postdoctoral position in maritime learning analytics requires a candidate with a PhD in computer science, data science, educational technology or a related field. If you are in the final stage of your PhD, you may still apply if you have submitted your PhD thesis for evaluation before the application deadline. It is necessary to attach the thesis with your application. You must have dissertated before the start-up date of the position.
Web development experience and programming skills using such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or other relevant languages are required.
English profiency as stated here is required.
Candidates should have knowledge in multi-media data mining, which involves the extraction, analysis, and visualization of data from various media sources such as video, audio and motion data.
Knowledge and experience related to ship navigation would be advantageous for the candidate.

Assessment
The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee's mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants' qualifications based on the written material presented by the applicants, and the detailed description draw up for the position.
The applicants who are assessed as best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview should among other things, aim to clarify the applicant’s motivation and personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.

The remuneration for Postdoctoral research fellow is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1352. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
