--An opportunity to work at the core of Bayer’s radiopharmaceutical development, with direct impact on clinical delivery and patient outcomes.

Bayer Norway is at the forefront of developing next generation, targeted radiopharmaceuticals, shaping the future of precision medicine.

Through innovation and deep scientific expertise, we are advancing breakthrough solutions that address unmet medical needs. Alongside our leadership in radiopharmaceuticals and oncology, we maintain a strong and impactful presence across key therapeutic areas including cardiovascular health, ophthalmology, and women’s health -- driven by our purpose to transform lives through science - and truly living our vison Health for all, hunger for none.

We are looking for a Radiopharmaceutical Process Development Scientist/Engineer -- Automated PET/SPECT Synthesis & Radiolabeling

Radiopharmaceuticals represent a strategic growth pillar for Bayer within Oncology and beyond. As our pipeline expands across molecular imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy, we are strengthening our CMC Radiopharmaceutical Development organization and are seeking a hands-on, operational development scientist/engineer with industry experience to drive process and product development with strong focus on automation of synthesis and radiolabeling for PET and SPECT imaging agents as well as our Targeted Radionuclide Therapy portfolio.

This position is based in Oslo, home to Bayer’s core radiopharmaceutical development activities, and is closely connected to development laboratories, GMP manufacturing, and external partners. The role is critical to establishing robust, transferable, and automated production processes that enable reliable clinical supply in a time‑critical radiopharmaceutical environment.

In this role, you will contribute to process and product development for PET/SPECT imaging agents and therapeutics, with emphasis on automated synthesis and radiolabeling, process optimization, and troubleshooting. You will collaborate with CMC Project Leads, quality and regulatory colleagues, production teams, and an international Contract Development Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) network to ensure processes are designed for GMP readiness, technology transfer, and reliable execution.

Beyond project delivery, you will contribute to platform and process standardization across imaging modalities, including development of templates, batch documentation, automation strategies, and continuous improvement of synthesis workflows. Your work will support efficient generation of fit‑for‑purpose material for preclinical studies and early clinical supply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and drive process and product development activities for PET/SPECT imaging agents and radioligand therapy products including synthesis optimization, radiolabeling, and purification strategies.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain automated synthesis methods on commercially available platforms (e.g., GE FASTlab, Trasis).

  • Execute on development studies related to purification and radiolabeling processes for our Radioligand Therapy products.

  • Translate laboratory experiments and methods into robust, reproducible, and GMP ready processes, including definition of critical process parameters, in process controls, and acceptance criteria.

  • Prepare and review development and production documentation (e.g., protocols, reports, batch records, deviations/CAPA support) and contribute to writing of CMC sections for IND/IMPD as required.

  • Support technology transfer to CDMOs, including on-site training, troubleshooting, and readiness activities for first in human and subsequent clinical supply.

  • In collaboration with external partners, drive continuous improvement of automated workflows, yield and quality, cycle time, and right first time performance; identify opportunities to standardize processes across the portfolio.

Profile & Experience
  • We are looking for a colleague who combines scientific depth with operational execution skills, and who enjoys working close to the lab/production environment where timing, quality, and reproducibility matter.

  • Master’s or PhD in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related natural sciences, with relevant industry experience in radiopharmaceutical development and/or production.

  • Hands on experience with automated radiosynthesis and radiolabeling workflows for PET and/or SPECT tracers; experience with FASTlab and/or Trasis systems is a strong benefit.

  • Good working knowledge of GMP expectations for radiopharmaceuticals, including documentation practices, deviations, change control, and data integrity.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to collaborate across chemistry/radiochemistry, analytics/QC, engineering, quality, and external partners to resolve issues quickly and prevent recurrence.

Critical Leadership Competencies
  • Clear and pragmatic communication: able to document work in a clear and concise manner, communicate deviations and risks early, and align quickly with stakeholders in a time critical environment.

  • High ownership and reliability: understands that radiopharmaceutical work is time sensitive and requires disciplined execution, including flexibility during critical production and troubleshooting windows.

  • Structured problem solving: uses data to identify root causes and implements effective corrective and preventive actions together with relevant functions.

  • Safety and quality mindset: demonstrates strong awareness of radiation safety, GMP compliance, and good documentation practices while delivering on tight timelines.

Why This Role Matters

This role offers the opportunity to work at the core of Bayer’s radiopharmaceutical development, with direct impact on clinical delivery and patient outcomes. You will help build robust and transferable synthesis processes that enable reliable supply of Bayers Radiopharmaceuticals , working alongside specialized experts in an environment that values ownership, clarity and execution excellence.
