About the position
We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge European research in Applied AI for cybersecurity, secure system design, and validation frameworks.
The position has a 3 years duration and will be based within the Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience (CISaR) group in the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology at NTNU. The successful candidate will contribute to the implementation and scientific advancement of two ambitious Horizon Europe projects, SECASSURED and ATHENA, focusing on the design, development, and validation of AI-based security services, automated vulnerability detection, and virtual secure environments.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with leading European universities, research centers, and industrial partners in advancing next-generation cybersecurity technologies for critical infrastructures.
The purpose of a postdoctoral position is to build up a researcher profile that qualifies for a position as associate professor. The position may also offer additional skills that are relevant to the postdoctoral fellow's future career.

Duties of the position
The selected applicant contributes to research, design, development, and validation of advanced cybersecurity solutions, including:
- Designing and implementing ML/AI-based security services, such as anomaly detection, predictive threat modeling, and system health monitoring.
- Developing secure engineering and system components, including the adaptation and integration of virtual secure environments in line with EU security standards.
- Contributing to automated vulnerability detection and assessment, with attention to data integration and visualization of security insights.
- Supporting validation and continuous integration, including the development of validation plans, CI/CD methods, and testing environments.
The researcher will work closely with project partners in academia and industry and take part in collaborative research activities, preparation of deliverables, and dissemination of results.
Required selection criteria
- A completed PhD in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in using AI/ML and applied AI, particularly for cybersecurity applications such as anomaly detection, intrusion detection, or threat analysis.
- Programming and development skills
If you do not already have educational competence that meets the requirements for a position as associate professor in Norway, NTNU will arrange for you to acquire such competence during the employment period.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with NTNUs guidelines for recruitment positions and Regulations concerning the degrees of philosophiae doctor (ph.d.) in artistic development work at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)for general criteria for the position.
As a result of the new Act relating to universities and university colleges with associated regulations of 01/08/2024, NTNU has, during a transitional period (for decisions on employment in recruitment positions before 1 August 2025), chosen to use the terms of employment in the old regulations of 31 January 2006 no. 102 on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, scientific assistant and specialist candidate
Preferred selection criteria
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international team.
- Demonstrated interest in translating research into practical solutions, contributing to system prototypes, and engaging with industrial stakeholders.
- Experience with AI-based security systems or related technologies such as predictive threat modelling, vulnerability assessment, or automated defence mechanisms.
- Familiarity with testbed development, compliance testing, and system validation is a plus.
- Knowledge of data visualization frameworks and techniques for cybersecurity analytics is a plus.
- Familiarity with secure software engineering, DevSecOps, or continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) environments.
- Publications in reputable venues across relevant research topics.
- Ability to timely obtain security clearance.

Salary and conditions
As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 633 400,- per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 3 years, including course within educational competence.
The position is conditional on external funding.

The appointment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act, and Export control (legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology and services).
