Can you design a robot that works in the sea around the clock, through currents, corrosion, biofouling and the occasional curious salmon? Remora Robotics is looking for a senior mechanical design engineer to strengthen our R&D team and help take our underwater robots to the next level.

About the role
At Remora Robotics, we build autonomous underwater robots operating at commercial scale in one of the world’s most demanding industries -- aquaculture. Our robots continuously clean and inspect fish farm nets, combining robotics, autonomy, AI, computer vision, and real-world operations into one integrated platform.

We are now developing the next generation of our robots, and we’re looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who can turn ideas into robust hardware and help the hardware team deliver on its plans.

You will join a small R&D team where your experience will be valued and your input will help shape both what we build and how we build it. You’ll work closely with electronics, software and our field operations team, and your designs will be tested at sea, not just in CAD.

What you will work on
  • Mechanical design of underwater robots, from early concepts and creative solutions to detailed CAD and complete assemblies.

  • Pressure-rated housings, sealing solutions and structures built to survive long-term operation at sea.

  • Material selection and tolerance analysis for components exposed to seawater, corrosion and continuous operation.

  • Strength and structural analysis, including rotating parts, shafts, bearings and motor integration.

  • Design for manufacturing and assembly, choosing the right production methods and working with suppliers.

  • Technical drawings, documentation and revision control for prototypes and production.

  • Planning and following up prototyping, testing and validation, coordinating priorities across the hardware team, and making sure projects reach their goals on time.

  • Taking designs all the way from prototype to stable production.

We are looking for someone who
  • Has several years of experience with mechanical design and product development, ideally including products that went into production.

  • Has strong CAD skills, including assemblies and production-ready drawings, and good habits around documentation and revision control.

  • Knows a range of production methods and designs with manufacturability and cost in mind.

  • Has experience with material selection, tolerance analysis, and structural and strength calculations.

  • Can take a concept to a working prototype within tight timelines, balancing quality, speed and cost.

  • Has experience leading hardware projects, with responsibility for planning, priorities and follow-up across disciplines.

  • Brings structure and overview, and naturally takes responsibility for keeping the team aligned on priorities.

  • Shares knowledge and supports colleagues, and values input from those with field experience.

  • Has a degree in mechanical engineering, product development or a related field.

It’s a plus if you have experience with
  • Subsea or marine equipment, especially pressure testing and sealing

  • Underwater or field robotics

  • FEA and simulation tools

  • Electromechanical design, such as motors, thrusters or actuators

  • Additive manufacturing

We offer
  • An important role in a small, skilled team where you get to see your designs go from sketch to robots operating at sea.

  • Work on autonomous robots operating in the real world, with all the fun challenges that brings.

  • A company with strong momentum, ambitious goals and global potential.

  • Office in Stavanger with easy access to our workshop and test facilities.
