Baker Hughes is looking for a talented Lead Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Stord, Norway. Our Stord facility is a global Center of Excellence for IWOCS (Intervention Workover Control Systems) and Production HPUs, developing advanced control systems and intervention equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry.

As a Software Engineer, you will work with the development, maintenance, and improvement of control software for offshore equipment. The role involves PLC programming, HMI development, and integration of control systems used in subsea intervention and production support equipment.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining PLC‑based control systems for offshore equipment

  • Programming and configuring industrial PLC systems, primarily Siemens, while also utilizing Wago and Allen‑Bradley platforms

  • Developing operator interfaces using HMI platforms such as InTouch and Zenon

  • Integrating and testing software for control systems supporting equipment including:

    • IWOCS (Intervention Workover Control Systems)

    • Production Hydraulic Power Units (HPU)

    • Reeler systems

    • Test & Flush HPU units

  • Participating in system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting

  • Collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to deliver integrated control solutions

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of software architecture and system reliability

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Other relevant experience can compensate for lacking formal education.

  • Be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.

  • Desired to have experience with HMI development, preferably InTouch and/or Zenon

  • Preferred to have experience with industrial automation systems and control architectures

  • Desired to have knowledge of SIL‑rated safety systems (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511)

  • Preferred to have experience with industrial network configuration and communication protocols

  • Desired to be familiar with offshore or subsea control systems

  • Preferred to be familiar with Ex‑rated equipment according to ATEX and/or IECEx

  • Desired to have experience with system testing, debugging, and commissioning

  • Preferred to have experience with Teamcenter or similar document management systems (considered a plus)

  • Desired to be able to communicate fluently in Norwegian, both orally and in writing

  • Preferred to have an analytical and structured approach to problem solving

  • Desired ability to work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams

  • Preferred strong attention to quality and system reliability

  • Desired motivation to work in a technically demanding and international environment
