About the position
The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture at Nord University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a PhD fellowship within the project “Dynamic genomes, invasive species: identifying genomic targets for sustainable biocontrol".
Understanding genomic and epigenomic adaptations that enable successful invasions is crucial to bio-sustainable control measures aimed at protecting food security, aiding conservation and informing management policy. You will use advanced novel genomic approaches to assemble, annotate and explore the genome biology of a non-invasive and one of the most harmful invasive gastropods. This study promises unprecedented resolution of mollusc genomes, which will be utilised to address genome evolution, using cutting-edge comparative genomic analyses and identify targets for responsible sustainable control.
The position is based in Bodø and will be available from January 2026.
Qualification requirements
The candidate should hold an MSc degree (or equivalent) in biology, bioinformatics, genetics, molecular ecology, or a related field. Solid knowledge and practical experience in molecular ecology, population genetics, and statistical and bioinformatic analyses are required. An interest in, and preferably prior experience with, genomic analysis and bioinformatics is considered an advantage.
