About Bergen Engines
Bergen Engines is a leading developer and manufacturer of medium-speed engines and power solutions for marine and energy applications. Our products deliver reliable power for critical operations worldwide. Our vision is to provide sustainable, efficient, and reliable energy solutions, supporting the transition to lower-emission and future-ready power systems through continuous innovation and engineering excellence.

About the Department
The Engineering Analysis & Materials Technology department is Bergen Engines Group’s centre of excellence for structural and dynamic analysis of engines, gensets, and critical components.
We own shaftline dynamics for the complete drivetrain (engine–generator/gear –shafting–propeller) and are responsible for reliability assessments, simulation methodologies, and verification programs. The team supports new product development, portfolio improvements, engine deliveries, and OEM/Service operations.

Role Purpose
As a Senior R&D Engineer – Dynamic Analysis, you will independently perform advanced dynamic analyses and act as a key contributor to technical quality, reliability, and engineering problem-solving within dynamic systems and shaftline-related topics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead dynamic analysis work for complex components, systems, and investigations
  • Define modelling strategies, assumptions, and analysis scope
  • Perform 3D multi-body simulations of complete engine systems
  • Execute component-level vibration analysis and optimization (FEM dynamics)
  • Conduct driveline/shaftline dynamic analyses using in-house tools and codes
  • Interpret results related to vibration behavior, system response, and technical risk
  • Plan and perform vibration measurements, correlate test and simulation results
  • Support engine deliveries, plant simulations, and non-conformance handling
  • Contribute to reliability and risk assessments
  • Support Test, Inspection, Verification & Validation  planning and technical follow-up
  • Review analysis work and mentor less experienced engineers
  • Drive method development and efficiency improvements (e.g., Python, MATLAB, model reuse)
  • Perform and document analyses in compliance with classification society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS), supporting certification and approval activities

Qualifications & Experience:
  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Strong experience in dynamic analysis, preferably within engines, rotating machinery, or drivetrain systems

Competence in:
  • 3D multi-body simulation (MBS)
  • FEM dynamics (modal, harmonic, transient, FRF)
  • Vibration analysis and measurement techniques
  • Experience with shaftline/driveline dynamics is desirable
  • Programming/scripting skills (Python, MATLAB) for automation and method development

Personal qualities:
  • Ability to work independently with complex technical challenges and high responsibility
  • Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a complex, cross-functional organization
  • Structured and proactive, with the ability to drive tasks and projects to completion
  • Effective in project execution, balancing technical depth with delivery focus
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence decisions and align stakeholders

What We Offer:
  • A key role in a highly specialized engineering environment
  • Opportunity to influence critical product performance and reliability
  • Work with advanced tools and in-house developed methodologies
  • Strong professional development within dynamic analysis and system engineering
  • A collaborative team with high technical competence and ownership
  • To be a part of a dedicated international team with a common goal to develop a greener future
  • Good development opportunities in an international environment
  • Competitive salary according to qualifications and a common bonus system
  • Good work and life balance, through e.g. flexible work hours and holiday schemes
  • Good pension and insurance schemes
  • Discounts with different companies and cottage to rent in Kvamskogen
  • An active welfare club
