This year, Andøya Spaceport became the first operational spaceport in Europe facilitating ISAR Aeorospace’s first test flight of their Spectrum Launcher.
The Operations Department is responsible for preparing for, organizing, and conducting ground and launch operations at Andøya Spaceport in accordance with established regulations and best safety practices. To reach operational readiness and prepare for increasing cadence, we seek candidates with relevant experience and motivation to join the dynamic team.
If selected for a position, you will be assigned the responsibility of preparing for and managing ground safety. This includes managing requirements, risk assessments processes, endorsing safety submissions and preparing operational safety plans for all operations related to preparing the launcher for flight. Moreover, if you are found eligible you will receive training and assignment to become part of the operational team as a Ground Safety Officer.
This is an ambitious project. We seek candidates with initiative, independence, flexibility, and willingness to take responsibility. The position will be located on Andøya. Working language is primarily English.
The candidate must be eligible to obtain a Norwegian security clearance.
Working tasks/responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Spaceport’s Safety Manager, you will:
- Manage the Spaceport’s ground safety requirements in accordance with best safety practices, national legislation and international standards.
- Manage risk assessment processes, in order to identify and mitigate risk during ground operations as well as 365 days/year.
- Assess and endorse safety deliverables from our customers.
- Elaborate ground safety plans.
- Participate to elaboration of training material and training activities for ground safety related topics.
- If eligible, train and participate to ground and launch operations in the role of a Ground Safety Officer. As Ground Safety Officer you will be part of the operational safety team, reporting to the Launch Safety Officer and managing personnel under your command.
- Contribute to the work of maintaining a Launch Site Operator license from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority.
- Contribute to the work of maintaining authorization from DSB for storage and handling of hazardous materials and carrying out operations under de Seveso directive (Storulykkeforskriften).
- Lead and support relevant personnel supporting your role, such as numerical analysts and consultants.
- Contribute to developing and maintaining a sound safety culture within the Spaceport and encouraging our partners and customers to comply with our safety standards.
- Cooperate with the Safety, Security and Quality department of Andøya Space, and contribute to the general safety work.
Qualifications- education
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Experience in one of the fields: safety management, risk management, fire protection and safety, hazardous materials, safety engineering, or similar, form the oil and gas industry, process industry or other relevant sector.
- Long and relevant experience may compensate for educational requirement.
- Proven skills in writing of reports and documentation relevant to safety.
- Experience from operational environments such as launch ranges, aviation, oil and gas industry, mechanical industry or equivalent would be an asset.
- Fluent in written and oral English.
- Good proficiency with standard office IT and applications
