BID3 is one of Europe's leading power market models, used by transmission system operators, utilities, traders, policymakers and major energy companies to analyse electricity markets, value assets and support investment decisions. Our client base spans many of the most influential organisations in the energy sector, and we work closely with users across Europe and beyond.
The Oslo team plays a key role in the development of BID3, with a particular focus on advanced hydro power modelling and optimization in the Nordics and Brazil. We are currently undertaking several exciting client-driven developments to further improve our detailed hydro modelling capabilities, including cascade modelling and stochastic dynamic programming (SDDP) approaches used to calculate water values. Our team works with all the Nordic TSOs and some of the largest power producesr and consumers in the Nordics and Brazil.
We are hiring one developer/modeller with 1-4 years of experience to strengthen our team. You will contribute directly to the development of BID3 while also having opportunities to participate in consulting assignments, collaborate with leading energy companies, and help solve some of the most challenging problems facing the energy transition.
This is primarily a software development and modelling role, but it also offers the opportunity to work directly with clients and energy market experts across AFRY's international network.
What we're looking for
We believe curiosity, enthusiasm and problem-solving ability are more important than already knowing everything. If you enjoy tackling challenging analytical problems and are excited by energy markets, optimisation and software development, we'd love to hear from you.
We think you'll be a great fit if you are interested in at least two of the following areas and eager to learn more about the third:
-
Mathematical modelling and optimisation
-
Energy markets and energy systems
-
Software development
-
1-4 years of relevant professional experience
-
Master's degree or PhD in STEM, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Programming experience in Python, C#, or similar languages
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills in an international environment
-
Experience with optimisation modelling
-
Experience with Mosel, Gurobi, GAMS, AMPL, Pyomo or similar optimisation frameworks
-
Familiarity with electricity markets, hydro power systems or energy modelling
-
Experience working in a software development team
-
Work on one of Europe's leading power market models
-
Direct exposure to major energy companies, TSOs and policymakers
-
The opportunity to help develop cutting-edge hydro modelling and optimisation techniques
-
Modern development practices and tools in a collaborative software engineering environment
-
Collaboration with experts in energy markets, power systems and software development
-
A combination of software development, quantitative modelling and consulting work
-
An international working environment with colleagues and clients across Europe
-
Significant opportunities for learning, mentoring and professional growth
-
Flexible working arrangements and a modern office in central Oslo
-
Competitive salary and benefits package
